Known as "Van the Man" by his fans, Morrison first rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Northern Irish band Them, writing their 1964 hit "Gloria". A few years later, Morrison left the band for a successful solo career, starting with the album Astral Weeks.
Morrison has pursued an idiosyncratic musical path. Much of his music is tightly structured around the conventions of American soul and R&B, such as the popular singles "Brown Eyed Girl", "Moondance", "Domino", and "Wild Night". An equal part of his catalogue consists of lengthy, loosely connected, spiritually inspired musical journeys that show the influence of Celtic tradition, jazz, and stream-of-consciousness narrative, such as his classic album Astral Weeks and lesser known works such as Veedon Fleece and Common One. The two strains together are sometimes referred to as "Celtic Soul," and Morrison rejects the characterization of his genre of music as Rock, citing Elvis Presley as a non-influence.
He continues to perform regularly and achieved his highest U.S. chart position (number ten on the Billboard 200) with his 2008 album, Keep It Simple.

Skipping down the hillside gaily
Looking like the flowers that bloom in May
Won't you make your reservation?
I will meet you at the station
Won't you come and see me, All Saints Day?
Follow my lead, it is no wonder, I seem to be so high
As the days go rolling by
See me strolling through the meadow
With you baby by my side
Won't you come and see me, All Saints Day?
See the streamline blue horizon
With you baby by the way
Won't you come and see me, All Saints Day?
You can make your reservation
I will meet you at the station
When you come to see me, All Saints Day
When you come to see me, All Saints Day
When you come to see me, All Saints Day.
The lyrics to Van Morrison's song "All Saints Day" are an invitation to a loved one to come and spend time with him. The song is filled with joyful imagery of nature and beauty, highlighting the simple pleasures of life. The opening lines refer to a woman named Sue who is skipping down the hillside looking like the flowers of May, an idyllic image of playful innocence. The singer then invites his lover to come and meet him on All Saints Day, which is a Christian holiday celebrated on November 1st. The day is a time for honoring the saints and remembering those who have passed away.
As the song continues, the singer emphasizes his happiness and contentment in life. He feels "so high" and is "living [his] dreams" the way they were meant to be lived. The image of strolling through the meadow with his lover by his side conveys a sense of peace and joy, suggesting that the singer has found meaning and purpose in life through his relationships with others. The phrase "All Saints Day" becomes a metaphor for the power of love and companionship to bring light and meaning to our lives, even in the midst of life's difficulties.
Overall, "All Saints Day" is a lyrically rich and musically engaging track that combines Morrison's signature poetic style with a breezy, joyous melody. It is a testament to the power of love to bring joy and meaning to our lives, and a celebration of the beauty that surrounds us all.
