Known as "Van the Man" by his fans, Morrison first rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Northern Irish band Them, writing their 1964 hit "Gloria". A few years later, Morrison left the band for a successful solo career, starting with the album Astral Weeks.
Morrison has pursued an idiosyncratic musical path. Much of his music is tightly structured around the conventions of American soul and R&B, such as the popular singles "Brown Eyed Girl", "Moondance", "Domino", and "Wild Night". An equal part of his catalogue consists of lengthy, loosely connected, spiritually inspired musical journeys that show the influence of Celtic tradition, jazz, and stream-of-consciousness narrative, such as his classic album Astral Weeks and lesser known works such as Veedon Fleece and Common One. The two strains together are sometimes referred to as "Celtic Soul," and Morrison rejects the characterization of his genre of music as Rock, citing Elvis Presley as a non-influence.
He continues to perform regularly and achieved his highest U.S. chart position (number ten on the Billboard 200) with his 2008 album, Keep It Simple.
Call My Name

And friends no longer want you around
When you feel burdened down with care
And troubles seem so hard to bear
Call my name hear me talkin' to ya baby
Call my name, yeah hey yeah, call my name
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh
When everything that you try has failed
And you never even get no mail
When life to you seems such a bore
And blues come calling 'round your door
Call my name hear me talkin' to ya baby
Call my name, yeah yeah yeah, call my name
Whoa oh oh oh yeah
Yeah, I'll be there
If you feel that you're all alone
And sick inside away from home
When you no longer want to try
Or care if you should live or die
Call my name hear me talkin' to ya baby
Call my name, yeah yeah yeah, and I'll be there
Right there, where I belong
All you gotta do is call me
All you gotta do is call me...
The lyrics of Van Morrison's song Call My Name talk about being there for someone in the toughest of times. The song begins with the idea that when the world fails you and friends are no longer around, one can call his name and he will be there to listen and offer support. The second verse is about when life starts to feel stagnant and nothing seems to work out, one can simply call his name and feel his presence there. In the final verse, Morrison highlights the feeling of loneliness and sickness that someone might feel when they're away from their loved ones. But even then, all they have to do is call his name and he will be by their side, where he belongs.
The song reflects the idea that sometimes people feel low and hopeless in life, and that's when they need someone to hold their hand and remind them that everything will be okay. And if that someone is not physically present, they can call out to them, and they will be there even if just in spirit. The lyrics emphasize the message that one is never truly alone and that there is always hope, no matter how bad things might seem.
Overall, the song is a heartwarming reminder that help and support is always around, and all one needs to do is reach out.
