Known as "Van the Man" by his fans, Morrison first rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Northern Irish band Them, writing their 1964 hit "Gloria". A few years later, Morrison left the band for a successful solo career, starting with the album Astral Weeks.
Morrison has pursued an idiosyncratic musical path. Much of his music is tightly structured around the conventions of American soul and R&B, such as the popular singles "Brown Eyed Girl", "Moondance", "Domino", and "Wild Night". An equal part of his catalogue consists of lengthy, loosely connected, spiritually inspired musical journeys that show the influence of Celtic tradition, jazz, and stream-of-consciousness narrative, such as his classic album Astral Weeks and lesser known works such as Veedon Fleece and Common One. The two strains together are sometimes referred to as "Celtic Soul," and Morrison rejects the characterization of his genre of music as Rock, citing Elvis Presley as a non-influence.
He continues to perform regularly and achieved his highest U.S. chart position (number ten on the Billboard 200) with his 2008 album, Keep It Simple.
Come Here My Love

This feeling has me spellbound
Yet the storyline, in paragraphs,
Laid down the same
In fathoms of my inner mind
I'm mystified, oh, by this mood
This melancholy feeling
That just don't do no good
Come here my love
And I will lift my spirits high for you
I'd like to fly away and spend a day or two
Just contemplating the fields and leaves
And talking about nothing
Just layin' down in shades of effervescent, effervescent odors
And shades of time and tide
And flowing through
Become enraptured by the sights and sounds
In intrigue of nature's beauty
Come along with me
And take it all in
Come here my love
Van Morrison's song "Come Here My Love" speaks to the experience of being under the spell of a certain emotion that cannot easily be explained. The lyrics suggest that there is something deeply melancholic about this feeling that can be confusing and difficult to navigate. Yet at the same time, there is a sense of being entranced by the experience, as if the singer is buoyed up by some inner spirituality that is difficult to articulate.
The song uses evocative imagery to suggest a sense of transcendence in nature. The singer invites his love to join him in the contemplation of "the fields and leaves," and to immerse themselves in the sensory experiences of the world around them. This involves not only visual stimuli but also the "effervescent odors" of nature, suggestive of the complex and subtle emotions that the world can evoke. The song also reflects on the passage of time, with "shades of time and tide" flowing through, suggesting the cyclical and enduring nature of experience.
Overall, the song seems to speak to a desire for connection and understanding with another person, even if the emotions being experienced are difficult to articulate. There is a sense of being "enraptured by the sights and sounds" of the world, a reminder of the vitality and beauty that is always available to us if we are open to it.
