Known as "Van the Man" by his fans, Morrison first rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Northern Irish band Them, writing their 1964 hit "Gloria". A few years later, Morrison left the band for a successful solo career, starting with the album Astral Weeks.
Morrison has pursued an idiosyncratic musical path. Much of his music is tightly structured around the conventions of American soul and R&B, such as the popular singles "Brown Eyed Girl", "Moondance", "Domino", and "Wild Night". An equal part of his catalogue consists of lengthy, loosely connected, spiritually inspired musical journeys that show the influence of Celtic tradition, jazz, and stream-of-consciousness narrative, such as his classic album Astral Weeks and lesser known works such as Veedon Fleece and Common One. The two strains together are sometimes referred to as "Celtic Soul," and Morrison rejects the characterization of his genre of music as Rock, citing Elvis Presley as a non-influence.
He continues to perform regularly and achieved his highest U.S. chart position (number ten on the Billboard 200) with his 2008 album, Keep It Simple.

Down the avenue just like we used to
With our heads so high smile at passers by
Yeah we'll softly sigh ay, ay, ay, ay, ay
Everyone, everyone, everyone, everyone
Everyone, everyone, everyone, everyone
Yeah make dreams come true if we want them to
Yes all will come play the pipes and drum
Sing a happy song and we'll sing along
Everyone, everyone, everyone, everyone
Everyone, everyone, everyone, everyone
We shall walk again all along down the lane
Down the avenue just like we used to
With our heads so high smile at passers by
Then we'll softly sigh ay, ay, ay, ay, ay
Everyone, everyone, everyone, everyone
Everyone, everyone, everyone, everyone
The song "Everyone" by Van Morrison is an uplifting tune that speaks of coming together with everyone, old friends and strangers alike, to enjoy the beauty of life. The lyrics paint a picture of walking down the lane and avenue, smiling at passersby, and sighing happily. The phrase "We shall walk again all along the lane" suggests that the singer is calling on a memory of a happier time when all was well, and they were content to simply stroll and enjoy the scenery.
The second verse speaks of lying by a winding stream, dreaming and making those dreams come true. The mention of playing pipes and drums and singing a happy song collectively gives the impression of togetherness and community spirit. The song is meant to instill hope and remind us that, no matter what has happened in life or how long it's been since we've felt genuine joy, we can come together and reclaim that happiness.
One interpretation of this song could be that it is a call to return to a simpler time, to walk down the lane and down the avenue as we used to, without any worries or troubles. It is also suggesting that we can engage with anyone and feel a sense of connection, given the right spirit. The song speaks of comfort, friendship, and reconnecting with life's simple pleasures.
