Glad Tidings
Van Morrison Lyrics

And they'll lay you down low in the easy
And the lips that you kiss will say Christmas
And the miles that you traveled the distance

So believe no lies, dry your eyes and realize
That surprise
La, la, la, la la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
And the businessmen will shake hands and talk in numbers
And the princess will wake up from her slumber
Then all the knights will step forth with their arm bands
And every stranger you meet in the street will make demands
So believe no lies, then dry your eyes and realize
That surprise
La, la, la, la la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

And we'll send you glad tidings from New York
Open up your eyes so you may see
Ask you not to read between the lines
Hope that you will come in right on time
And they'll talk to you while you're in trances
And you'll visualize not taking any chances
But meet them halfway with love, peace and persuasion
And expect them to rise for the occasion
Don't it gratify when you see it materialize
Right in front of your eyes
That surprise

La, la, la, la la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

And we'll send you glad tidings from New York
Open up your eyes so you may see
Ask you not to read between the lines
Hope that you will come in right on time
And they'll lay you down low and easy

One of my favorite albums since the first time I heard it.
For me, even though I was not living as a Christian at the time,
Glad Tidings (meaning good news as well as greetings)
always has had a Biblical (Luke 2:10) ring to it.
Even eschatological.
And "by surprise" also feels like a biblical reference to the expected return of Jesus.
But the words don't all fit with these feelings.
So maybe it's just about making some connection in, with, or from NYC.
VM, like
The Band (All La Glory for example),
the Grateful Dead (Franklin's Tower), and others,
has, at least for me, a spiritual depth that goes
deeper than superficial expectations.
Oh, the water!

It is amazing how many people are still watching sopranos... the show is legendary

Ray-Ray Snow

I watch it all the way through at least once a year, currently on season 5.

Not Today

As a Belfast boy, born n bred, it took me starting to watch the Sopranos a few weeks ago to hear a Van Morrison song I actually like. I finished the show last night....then I woke up this morning and....started again.
