One More Time
Van Morrison Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's been so long
Since I've seen your smile
Made me think about
When you were a child
It won't be long, I'm comin' home
Gonna get you in my arms
And make love to you, darlin', one more time
When I left, you didn't even say good-bye
And the tears kept rollin' from my eye
It won't be long, I'm comin' on home
Gonna get you in my arms
And make love to you, darlin', just one more time
Umm-mm

Yes, it won't be long, I'm comin' on home
Gonna get you in my arms
And make love to you, darlin', just one more time

Well they say, in this here world
There's a girl for ev'ry boy
You're the one, you're the one
That's brought me so much joy

It won't be long, I'm comin' on home
Gonna get you in my arms
And make love to you, darlin', just one more time
Yeah, one more time

One more time
Just, one more time

Overall Meaning

The song "One More Time" is a touching ballad about rekindling an old flame that has been put out for too long. The song begins with a feeling of longing for love that has been lost, as the lyrics reference the singer not seeing their lover's smile in a long time. The singer then reminisces about their time together, thinking back to when their partner was a child. The song talks about how when the singer left, their partner did not say goodbye, and the tears kept rolling from their eyes.

But the singer reassures their partner that they will be coming home soon and that they will be reunited, telling them that they will be making love "just one more time." The song speaks to the idea that true love never truly dies, and that even if two people have been separated for a long time, their connection can still be reignited.

The lyrics of "One More Time" are simple but heartfelt, and the song conveys a sense of deep longing and desire for someone who has been missed. The song speaks to the power of love and the idea that it can overcome any obstacle and endure over time.

Van Morrison really was and still is the real deal.

Tina

This song is just so out of this world. Van's voice is like no other. I get chills whenever I put on the 33 of this and this is the first track that plays. Thank you for posting.

Cool Daddy

His voice is grating to the core. Thank God he improved in later years.

James Buckingham.

I suggest you get your hearing checked.

Cool Daddy

@James Buckingham. What? Can you say that again? I didn't hear you.

It sure cut through the static on my AM radio 😂. From Gaslight records: “In mid-1965, perhaps as a counterpoint to their high-energy sound, Them released ballad "One More Time". Chosen specifically by their manager Phil Solomon, it's a great album track but not a great single. In fact, guitarist Billy Harrison attributed its lack of commercial success to that very reason. Harrison’s jangling guitar arpeggios hang in the air, while Morrison’s reverb drenched voice blasts through with typical emotion. But the song lacks the punch of the group's earlier singles; sounding instead more like a reprise of 50s soft-rock.”

Thanks for this. Van Morrison was probably only 18 when this was recorded. The early formation of his voice is outstanding.

20, or almost, because he was born in August forty five and he killed the war by jus' being alive, a live oh !!

It's interesting how his voice has changed over the years. What a career then has. Legendary
