Snaggletooth
Vance Joy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Waiting for you baby
Through the coldest days
Huddled in the backseat of the van
And I know a girl who
Would wait until it's dark
When she sings the heavens part
They part
Ooh

And I held my ground
When I heard those sounds
Coming out
And I must have cried
When I held those hands

So do you know what I mean
So do you know how I feel
So do you know what I mean

Baby don't you know that
I love your snaggletooth
I see it poking when you laugh
And baby don't you know that
I love those pigeon toes
I hope that you get these pigeon lungs
Lung
Ooh

And I held my ground
When I heard those sounds
Coming out
And I must have cried
When I held those hands

So do you know what I mean
So do you know how I feel
So do you know what I mean

And I will try my best
To take this big old hen
And I will know his name
And always feel the same
And I'll light up so bright
Any orange glow
And I'll light so bright
Any orange glow

Glow
Ooh

And I held my ground
When I heard those sounds
Coming out
And I must have cried
When I held those hands

So do you know what I mean
So do you know how I feel
So do you know So do you know
So do you know So do you know
So do you know So do you know

So do you know So do you know
So do you know what I feel

Overall Meaning

"Snaggletooth" by Vance Joy is a beautiful love song that speaks of the singer's unconditional love for his partner's imperfections. The lyrics hint at a love that goes deeper than just physical attraction and focuses on the singer's emotional connection with his partner. The opening lines talk about waiting for his partner through the coldest days, suggesting that their love is strong enough to endure any hardship. The imagery of huddling in the backseat of the van is evocative of a cozy and intimate space, where the two lovers find solace in each other's company.

The chorus of the song is particularly poignant, where the singer proclaims his love for his partner's snaggletooth and pigeon toes, which are traditionally deemed as imperfections in our society. However, the singer embraces these imperfections and finds them endearing, affirming that true love doesn't care about physical appearance. The singer's intense emotional attachment to his partner is evident in the lines: "And I held my ground when I heard those sounds coming out, and I must have cried when I held those hands." These lines suggest that the singer is moved by his partner's emotional vulnerability and is there for her, no matter what.

This song makes me cry every time, because it makes me think of my daughter. She was born with multiple disabilities, but she is so beautiful with her little snaggletooth. I didn't expect her to grow up and be objectively beautiful with it.

@Unknown1245732

in what way is he not is the real question.

@Unknown1245732

***** You can still be underrated and be well recognized, his music is very good despite most people only knowing his song riptide which isn't as good as most of his songs. so, yes, he is very much underrated but to each their own. as long as we can agree his music is good :)

AGREED! i am an insane fan,and since everyone at my school is annoyed of him now since i always talk about him,,everyone i know HATES him.....without of giving him a chance...

@keitheastwood7502

I agree. His lyrics and voice deserve a lot more recognition than what he has got. A few American friends said they don't like him because he closes his eyes when he sings. I couldn't believe it when they said that to me.
