The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

I bought the dream but didn't read the small details
On which road I should take
I thought I could see it
You let me astray and now I feel cheated
I let you break my heart and bleed it
I know it
Now there's something I gotta prove
I'm a survivor
Scream it out loud and strong
I'm a survivor
That's right bring it on
I'm taking back the part I gave away, yeah
And I'll never do it again
Unless it's an evil trade, oh
Oh, I open my heart
Like a fool I trusted
The light in the dark until you unplugged it
Love left a mark but I rise above it
I know it
Every mistake that I ever made
Made me who I am today
I'm a survivor, yeah
Scream it out loud and strong
I'm a survivor
That's right bring it on
Princess opens up her eyes without a kiss
That she won't forgive
Because this good girls pissed
Every mistake that I ever made
Made me who I am today
I'm a survivor
Scream it out loud and strong
I'm a survivor, I'm a survivor
That's right bring it on
I'm a survivor, I'm a survivor
Scream it loud and strong
I'm a survivor, I'm a survivor, yeah
That's right bring it on
The lyrics of "All this Time" by Various Artists tell a story of someone who woke up from a "fractured fairytale." They've learned that they bought into a dream but failed to read the "small details" on which road to take. They trusted someone who misled them, leading to heartbreak and feelings of being cheated. However, instead of wallowing in self-pity, the singer ultimately learns to be a survivor. They declare that they hate to lose and have something to prove. They vow to take back the part of themselves that they gave away and never make the same mistake again. In the end, they admit that every mistake they've made has shaped them into who they are today.
The opening line of the song, "I just woke up from a fractured fairytale," refers to the idea that life does not always go according to plan. The singer's optimistic vision of the future was shattered, leaving them disillusioned and questioning their direction. The reference to a "fractured fairytale" is an allusion to the dark side of fairy tales, where things do not always end happily ever after.
The song's chorus is an empowering anthem that highlights the singer's newfound strength as a survivor. They proclaim their resilience and refuse to be held down by their past mistakes. The line "I'm taking back the part I gave away, yeah" is particularly powerful, emphasizing the singer's determination to regain control over their own life.
Overall, "All this Time" is a powerful song about personal growth and empowerment. It speaks to the idea that even when things don't go according to plan, we have the strength to overcome our obstacles and become stronger as a result.
