The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
BOOMERANG
Various Artists Lyrics

Just like a dream turned out all wrong
Don't feel the same madness about me now
Don't feel the hurting when I'm gone
Don't feel the wonder or the sweetness
Don't feel the aching need to share
Don't feel the way I feel without you girl
Just the flowers in your hair
Should I never look into your eyes again
Should I never want to make the call
Should I never need you like my only friend
Should I read the writing on the wall
It's just as simple as a feeling
Just as simple as these cards
Why do I feel so god damn complicated
Don't feel the aching need to share
It keeps coming back without you
Like a boomerang through my heart
And cursed cupid even found me alone
Into the wound another dart
Should I never look into your eyes again
Should I never want to give my all
Should I ever need you like my only friend
Should I read the writing on the wall
And all of those themes
Hoping our dream would fall together
Never to be, if only one dreamer dreams of love
Help me, Lord, I thought I found it
Just like a dream turned out all wrong
Don't feel the same madness about me now
She loves to hear the sadness in my song
The lyrics of "Boomerang" by Various Artists are about the frustration of love that has turned out to be all wrong. It starts with the singer expressing his disappointment - he thought he had found the perfect love, but it has turned out to be like a dream that didn't come true. He feels that the intense emotions he once felt for the person are no longer there, and he wonders whether he should move on and forget about her. Despite his doubts, however, he finds himself stuck in a cycle of love that keeps coming back to him like a boomerang, even causing him pain.
The lyrics contain several references to the duality of love, such as the contrast between the wonder and the sweetness he felt before and the aching need he feels now, the flower in the girl's hair which once meant so much and is now just a memory. The singer also feels conflicted about his feelings, noting that he wishes they were as simple as a feeling or a deck of cards, but instead they are complicated and difficult to sort out.
Ultimately, the song conveys a sense of hopelessness and confusion, as the singer struggles to come to terms with his feelings and resolve the conflict within himself. The final repetition of the opening lines, "Help me, Lord, I thought I found it/Just like a dream turned out all wrong," underscores the sense of disappointment and failure that permeates the song.
