The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.

Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.

Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.

Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.

Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

I'm so glad I watched this before picking it up since I might have been blindsided/discouraged a bit by her writing style. I know the book is 30 y.o. but after going through the intro chapters I can see how her spiritual and practical advice is informed a lot by her background as a white baby boomer raised catholic who (I assume) was never really financially unstable. At best I'm totally inspired but at worst I feel like I am being lectured by my grandmother lol

But seeing the POV of young artists like me on their experience with the book helped me get excited for the course while keeping an open mind. Thanks for making this! <3

Yes! There are a lot of nuances to Cameron's writing that makes this more accessible to white, religious, and financially privileged backgrounds. However, TAW is a program that works for many people, so I want to be open-minded despite me not being white, religious, financially privileged, etc. Gotta keep an eye out for both pros and cons. I love how little issues start to surface when I’m organizing, cleaning the house, sketching or doing a puzzle. It never occurred that would be the perfect time to write those things down. Not to analyze them (I’ll get no where with that), but just to bring more awareness of them to the surface. There like creepy little ants that start crawling on you when they think you’re distracted but run and hide as soon as you try to confront them

I have heard of Cameron's book but never read it. I'm curious to read it, though, since it's so influential. Seems strange to me, however, that anyone would suppose they need to follow her prescriptions. I typically write most mornings and write in a fashion that suits me. My habit and manner of writing clearly owe nothing to Cameron even though I often write "in the morning." When else are you likely to write? Could equally well write "afternoon pages," or "evening pages," or "middle of the night pages." (Done all of those too, at one time or another.) Been drawing and painting for decades and I do art also by following my own lights. It's fine to get inspiration and ideas from others, but I would find it amusing if an author were telling me how to live my life (assuming that's what she does). That was the great draw back of a book that was popular when I was young: The Natural Way to Draw by Kimon Nicolaides. Many of his suggestions were genuinely insightful. His Marine Corps- style schedule, however, was fairly daft.

What’s so funny about these reviews about the artist way is that Julia Cameron is notttt at all Christian. This comes from her background in 12 step groups where we use the word god for lack of a better word. She means a higher power. If anything the artist way is pretty witchy occult related thoughts and ideas.

He wrote a LOT about humanity as “sub-creators” and that creating is not only essential to humanity as a whole, but essential to his own experience of Christian worship, despite never writing religious material.

Did morning pages for the first time today. Im using the actual book for it published by the author and the pages are quite large compared to using something like a composition notebook. It took me about an hour to write three pages. I would be curious to hear how long it takes most people to do theirs. In the book julia off hand mentions it should only take around 15 minutes, im way off lol

Morning pages saved my sanity when Donald Trump became the President of the US. I wrote MPs every morning for all four years. It takes me no time at all to write three pages. In those years, it was like an existential scream—and I came out of it with resolve for each day and a calmer, more centered feeling. I have started up again, and really enjoy seeing were random writing gets me, I am much more creative this time.

My main problem with this book is... morning pages. I have ADHD and morning pages is simply not a reasonable request, especially in the form she insist is the only correct way. Author says that the pages resemble the chaotic thought process of somebody with ADHD so it's not a problem, clearly not understanding challenges faced by neurodivergent folk. Which, you know, I get that somebody may not understand it if they don't have to live with it. But then treating it as a "shouldn't be a problem" based on some twisted view on what the problem is, on her own public website, was very, very disheartening to see. Honestly I would feel better if she wouldn't address ADHD at all.

I recorded this video prior to starting The Artist's Way and now that I'm on Week 6, I understand the difficulty of getting through morning pages. I do have my own grievances with Cameron's militant approach to morning pages, so I've been doing them a few hours into the morning instead of right when I get up. I recommend making adjustments even if it means cutting things out (if you are doing TAW program). I see TAW has a preference for those who are neurotypical and able-bodied (as well as Christian and religious but that's a discussion for another day), which is very disheartening. It's unfortunate to see Cameron imbue this creative recovery program with her prejudices and biases because it should be more accommodating and inclusive. I'm sorry to hear this, but I appreciate you for sharing. Thanks!

As a fellow neurodivergent person I do my morning pages in the afternoon. I wake up, do my morning routine, take a short walk, eat my breakfast and by 12/1pm I’m ready to “work”. I’m not a morning person and I don’t like schedules. I think you can make the principles in this book work with your lifestyle. I also like that we don’t have to rigidly abide by things within the book, it’s a personal journey and you need to do as much as you need and want to feel fulfilled. If you have to accommodate your real life and differences don’t feel uncomfortable or wrong for it🫶🏾

I have ADHD & felt very similar when I 1st started. But once I got used to the process, I found it to be a literal lifesaver(!!!) for this brain of mine that never shuts the hell up. Been doing it for years & when I don’t, my day just doesn’t start off right. I’ve actually found it to be a great self-soothing technique. But I know that not everything works for everyone, just as ADHD can certainly manifest a bit differently in different people when combined with personality, temperament, type of ADHD, severity, etc.

I’m mad neurodivergent and 1) I totally get that something like morning pages can be challenging and people might need to adjust the schedule or format to fit their needs, but 2) once I got over the hump and made it a routine to sit down and do them first thing, the pages and the overall process of doing the exercises and the book was wonderful and life-altering. I’d encourage anyone who’s interested to keep at it, make alterations to how they do it, and push through. The exercises in this book are gold.

Many years ago I was suffering from burnout in my graphic design career and I did the Artists Way too. It got me unstuck and drawing again… and reading comics. Eventually I left the industry and went back to school to earn a BFA. I am hoping and praying that someday any story or conversation with your generation will stop being prefaced with- “I was watching a lot of Tik-Toks….” Read a book kids. Read a lot of them.

I forgot all about the artists way until tiktok reminded me of it. Tik tok has been amazing for me to snap out of my artistic burnout. Nothing wrong with using modern tools (just like we are watching and commenting on a video online) . I love interacting with my community on and offline. Social media is great for bringing like minded people together and not everyone lives in a big city with a lot of resources or people that share interests.

I'm sorry but all the part you said about famous artists of the past been devoted to God because they consider themselves or were considered by others blessed from God with their talent, is maybe usefull to explain the religious obsession the author shows in every page of the book but is quite far from historical reality.
Ancient artists, especially the most requested one, were pretty much confidend in their talent not because of God or any holy power the make them the way they were but because of their hard work, the long years of practice "a bottega" under other famous artists and the salary given by rich and powerful patrons both from the political and the religious world.
Please remember that religion at the time was just another center of power and the Pope was politically just another "king" interested in to conquest, to make money and to gain more power in any way he could. The only reason why in Italy we have tons and tons of sacred art is just because the Church of Rome was the richest power in the entire world at the time and they could afford artist super expensive like Caravaggio which, incidentally, was as far as a comet in the sky from any religion been himself actually an unrepentant, violent murder.
