The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You

You′d be like heaven to touch I wanna hold you so much
And long last love has arrived and I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be true can′t take my eyes off of you
Pardon the way that I stare is nothing else to compare
The sign of you usually weak there are no words left to speak
But if you feel like I feel please let me know that it′s real
I love you baby and if it's quite all right
I need you baby to warm your lonely night
I love you baby trust in me when I say
Oh pretty baby don′t bring me down I pray
Oh pretty baby come on and find you stay
And let me love you baby let me love you
You're just too good to be true...
Can′t take my eyes off of you can't take my eyes off of you
You're just too good to be true can′t take my eyes off of you
You′d be like heaven to touch I wanna hold you so much
And long last love has arrived and I thank God I'm alive
You′re just too good to be true can't take my eyes off of you
I love you baby and if it′s quite all right
I need you baby to warm your lonely night
I love you baby trust in me when I say
Oh pretty baby don't bring me down I pray
Oh pretty baby come on and find you stay
And let me love you baby let me love you
Oh give you baby trust to me what I said
I need you baby to warm your lonely night
Oh pretty baby come on and find you stay
And let me love you baby let me love you
The lyrics to “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” speak of a deep affection and intense attraction towards a person who seems too good to be true. The singer is taken by the sight, touch, and presence of the person and is nearly rendered speechless by their beauty. The love that has arrived is one that the singer has been waiting for and is thankful to have. The chorus reiterates the idea that the singer cannot look away from their love interest.
Different artists have interpreted the song's lyrics in their own unique ways. Among them is Lauryn Hill, whose rendition is more soulful and has a faster tempo. She brings a passionate energy to the song, with the drums and the piano playing prominently in the background. Another version of the song is by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, which is a classic take on the song with a more 60s pop vibe. Breathtaking vocals, simple harmonies, and an orchestra comprise the backbone of the arrangement. In contrast, Gloria Gaynor's version from 1975 is deemed more disco-oriented, with a faster tempo and a dance beat.
This song has been widely covered by different artists and has appeared in numerous movies and TV shows, including 10 Things I Hate About You, Bridget Jones’s Diary, and Friends. It has stood the test of time and still remains a popular tune for engagements, weddings, and romantic occasions. In 2019, the song's co-writer, Bob Crew, received a posthumous induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
