The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
Dancing Queen
Various Artists Lyrics

ft. Rosie (Julie Walters) & Tanya (Christine Baranski)
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen
Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...
You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen
You're a teaser, you turn 'em on
Leave them burning and then you're gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...
You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen
Dig in the Dancing Queen
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen
The lyrics of "Dancing Queen" by Various Artists are upbeat and cheerful, inviting the listener to join a fun dance party. The song is framed around the idea of the "Dancing Queen", a young and sweet girl who is only seventeen and always in the mood for a dance. The chorus repeats this title and encourages the listener to "dig" into this Dancing Queen's world, watching her every move and feeling the beat of the tambourine.
The first verse sets the scene for this party, describing a Friday night where the lights are low and everyone is looking for a place to go. The music is the main attraction here, with the right songs getting everyone swinging and in the groove. Anyone could be the king of the dance floor, and the night is full of possibilities. The second verse describes the Dancing Queen herself as a teaser who turns people on and then leaves them burning. She is always looking for another partner, anyone who will do, and once again the chorus reminds us of her young and sweet nature as well as the joy of dancing.
Overall, the song is an invitation to let loose and have fun on the dance floor, with the Dancing Queen as the center of attention. It captures the excitement and energy of a night out and encourages listeners to embrace the party atmosphere with abandon.

[Radio gaga – Queen]
I'd sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio
You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds invaded by Mars
You made 'em laugh, you made 'em cry
You made us feel like we could fly
All we hear is radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio, what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you
[S.O.S – ABBA]
So when you're near me
Darling, can't you hear me, S.O.S.
The love you gave me
Nothing else can save me, S.O.S.
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try, how can I carry on?
You seemed so far away
Though you were standing near
You made me feel alive
But something died, I fear
I really tried to make it up
I wish I understood
What happened to our love?
It used to be so good
So when you're near me
Darling, can't you hear me, S.O.S.
The love you gave me
Nothing else can save me, S.O.S.
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try, how can I carry on?
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try, how can I carry on?
[Kind of magic– Queen]
It's a kind of magic
It's a kind of magic
One dream, one soul
One prize, one goal
One golden glance of what should be
It's a kind of magic
This rage that lasts a thousand years
Will soon be, will soon be, will soon be done
This is (this is) a kind (a kind) of magic
There can be only one (one, one, one)
This rage that lasts a thousand years
[Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! –ABBA]
Half past twelve
And I'm watching the late show in my flat all alone
How I hate to spend the evening on my own
Autumn winds
Blowing outside my window as I look around the room
And it makes me so depressed to see the gloom
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer
Gimme, gimme, gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme, gimme, gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day
[Don't stop me now – Queen]
'Cause I'm having a good time, having a good time
I'm a shooting star leaping through the sky
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go, go, go
There's no stopping me
I'm burnin' through the sky, yeah
200 degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm travelling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man out of you
(Don't stop me now)
I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball
(Don't stop me now)
If you wanna have a good time just give me a call
(Don't stop me now)
'Cause I'm having a good time
(Don't stop me now)
Yes, I'm havin' a good time
I don't want to stop at all
[We will rock you – Queen]
We will, we will rock you
(Don't stop me, dont stop me)
We will, we will rock you
(Don't stop me, don't stop me)
[Don't stop me now–Queen]
I wanna make a supersonic man out of you
(Don't stop me now)
I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball
(Don't stop me now)
If you wanna have a good time just give me a call
(Don't stop me now)
