The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

Régua para medir
Minas são para explorar
Fatos uso p'ra vestir
Sol é p'ra nos aquecer
Lápis serve p'ra escrever
Sinos ouvem-se tocar
Dominó é p'ra jogar
Régua para medir
Minas são para explorar
Fatos uso p'ra vestir
Sol é p'ra nos aquecer
Lápis serve p'ra escrever
Sinos ouvem-se tocar
E agora vou relembrar
Dominó é p'ra jogar
Régua para medir
Minas são para explorar
Fatos uso p'ra vestir
Sol é p'ra nos aquecer
Lápis serve p'ra escrever
Sinos ouvem-se tocar
E agora vou relembrar
Dó, ré, mi, fá, sol, lá, si, dó, sol, dó
Sol, dó, lá, fá, mi, dó, ré
Sol, dó, lá, si, dó, ré, dó
Sol, dó, lá, fá, mi, dó, ré
Sol, dó, lá, si, dó, ré, dó
Quando as notas sei de cor
Músicas posso compor
Quando as notas sei de cor
Músicas posso compor
Dominó é p'ra jogar
Régua para medir
Minas são para explorar
Fatos uso p'ra vestir
Sol é p'ra nos aquecer
Lápis serve p'ra escrever
Sinos ouvem-se tocar
E agora vou relembrar
Dó, ré, mi, fá, sol, lá, si, dó
Dó, si, lá, sol, fá, mi, ré, dó
Mi, mi, mi, sol, sol
Ré, fá, fá, lá, si, si
Dó, mi, mi, mi, sol, sol
Ré, fá, fá, lá, si, si
Quando as notas sei de cor
Músicas posso compor
Dominó é p'ra jogar

The lyrics of the song Dó-Ré-Mi by Various Artists focus on the concept of using everyday objects and experiences to make music. The song starts by mentioning common items - dominoes, rulers, mines, and clothes - but goes on to highlight how even the sun, pencils, and church bells can be used in creating music. The repetition of these mentions throughout the song drives home the point that music can be made out of anything and everything around us. The chorus of the song is a mnemonic device, teaching the eight notes of the musical scale and suggesting that with this knowledge, one can compose music.
The lyrics of Dó-Ré-Mi are simple yet effective in conveying a powerful message. Through the repetition of the idea that music can be made from anything, the song emphasizes the universality of music and its accessibility. The chorus of the song also serves as an excellent educational tool for teaching musical notes to children. The song is a celebration of creativity and the power of music to unify and connect people from different walks of life.
