The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

You didn't even want me around
And now I'm back to let you know
I can really shake 'em down
Do you love me?
(I can really move)
Do you love me?
Now do you love me?
(Do you love me?)
Now that I can dance
Watch me now, hey
(Work, work)
Oh, work it all, baby
(Work, work)
Well, you're drivin' me crazy
(Work, work)
With a little bit of soul now
(Work)
I can mash potato
(I can mash potato)
I can do the twist
(I can do the twist)
Now tell me, baby
(Tell me, baby)
Do you like it like this
(Do you like it like this)
Tell me
(Tell me)
Tell me
Do you love me?
(Do you love me?)
Now do you love me?
(Do you love me?)
Do you love me?
(Do you love me?)
Now that I can dance
Watch me now
(Work, work)
Oh, shake it up, shake it
(Work, work)
Oh, shake 'em, shake 'em down
(Work, work)
Oh, little bit of soul now
(Work)
(Work, work)
Oh, shake it, shake it, baby
(Work, work)
Oh, you're driving me crazy
(Work, work)

The song "Do You Love Me" by Various Artists is an upbeat, funky composition that emphasizes the singer's desire for affection and recognition from a woman who previously rejected him because of his poor dancing skills. The lyrics indicate that he has now developed necessary moves, like the ability to "mash potato" and "do the twist," to catch the lady's eye. The singer inquires whether the woman loves him and emphasizes his newfound expertise in dancing while questioning her feelings for him. The chorus repeats these lines, urging her to tell him the truth about her emotions.
The singer also employs catchy phrases, such as "work, work" or "a little bit of soul now" to show his passion for dancing and driving the woman crazy with his newfound moves. The singer is aware that he's driving her insane with his moves, and he keeps encouraging her to dance with him as she's driving him insane too. The song's chorus is simple yet effective, with the catchy phrase "Do you love me?" repeated multiple times, capturing the excitement and anxiety of wanting to know if the object of his affection returns his feelings.
