Family
Various Artists Lyrics

What about what I need
Curtis says it's the best thing for the group
What about what's best for me
He feels that dreams can cross over

What about how I feel, the one but famous
I'll write great things for you
Effy do it for me
What about me, what about me

It's more than you, it is more than me
No matter what we are, we are a family
This dream is for all of us, this one can be real
And you can't stop us now because of how you feel

It's more than you, it is more than me
Whatever dreams we have they're for the family
We're not alone anymore now they are others there
And that dream's big enough for all of us to share

So think you're going, you're not going anywhere
You're staying and taking your share
And if you get afraid again, I'll be there

We are a family like a giant tree branching out of the sky
We are a family, we are so much more than just you and I
We are a family like a giant tree

Growing stronger, growing wiser, we are growing free
We need you, we are a family

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Various Artist's song "Family" express the tension that arises when individuals in a group prioritize different things. The lyrics ask "What about what I need?" and "What about what's best for me?" which acknowledges that sometimes individual desires are at odds with the desires of the group. Curtis believes that sacrificing individual dreams is necessary for the success of the group, whereas the singer believes that they can simultaneously pursue their own dreams and contribute to the group. The singer also acknowledges that they have the potential to be famous, and therefore, their contribution to the group would be valuable.

Despite these individual tensions, the song emphasizes that the group (i.e. "family") can achieve more together than they can alone. The dream that the group shares is described as one that "can be real," and the members of the group are described as a "giant tree" that is "growing stronger" and "growing free." The song suggests that the group has a collective identity and that it is possible to grow and change together.

Overall, the lyrics of "Family" explore both the potential for conflict among members of a group and the benefits and joys of being part of a larger community. The song encourages individuals to prioritize their own dreams while recognizing that these dreams are connected to the success of the group as a whole.

Here are the lyrics:

Ayy, whoa, uh, what?
Mm, uh (Uh-huh, uh-huh)

The only rule is get on your feet
I don'tβ€…wannaβ€…see nobody heatin'β€…up their seat
And if you believeβ€…it, if you 'bout it
No matter where you're from
The apple don't fall from it

The people wanna know when they see us dancin' (Ayy, ayy)
Wanna know how we got those moves
People wanna bottle it up, up, up, but no can do
People wanna know how to follow a feeling (Ayy, ayy)
Wanna know how we got that groove (Ayy, ayy)
They're thirsty for the juice
But I'ma tell you the truth

Ooh
It runs in my family
Ooh
It runs in my family
It's all about you and me

Any color, it doesn't matter
The way it's shinin' on the inside it's all that matter
A different mama, a different mister
Talk your talk and walk your walk and know I'm right there with you, and

People wanna know when they see us dancin', ooh (Ayy, ayy)
Wanna know how we got those moves
People wanna bottle it up, up, up, but no can do (But no can do)
People wanna know how to follow a feeling (Ayy, ayy)
Wanna know how we got that groove (Ayy, ayy)
They're thirsty for the juice
But I'ma tell you the truth

Ooh
It runs in my family
Ooh
It runs in my family
It's all about you and me
Ooh
It runs in my family
Ooh
It runs in my family
It's all about you and me

Ayy
Uh
Oh, yeah
Uh, ayy
Ayy, ayy, ayy

Ooh
It runs in my family
Ooh
It runs in my family
It's all about you and me
(Ooh) People wanna know when they see us dancin'
Wanna know how we got those moves
People wanna know how we got that feeling, how we got that feeling (It's all about you and me)
(Ooh) People wanna know when they see us dancin'
Wanna know how we got those moves
People wanna know how we got that feeling, how we got that feeling (It's all about you and me)
(Ooh) People wanna know when they see us dancin'

To think at the beginning it was just Poppy and BranchπŸ˜„πŸ©·πŸ’™! Now their family has increased more than doubleπŸ©·πŸ’πŸ’™β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ’š! I can’t wait to see more of them together!

@emillyhale7557

I know right! 😁 With Branch's brothers and Poppy's long lost sister, Viva back in their lives, their family truly is bigger and better than ever. 😊πŸ₯° I'm sure that when Poppy and Branch are ready to tie the knot that Branch's brothers will already have loved and accepted Poppy as their sister-in-law and Viva accepted Branch as her brother-in-law. 😊πŸ₯°

A beautiful and loving family song. ❀πŸ₯°

@purple-eyesgreydragon

@@emillyhale7557 Bet it was a pleasant surprise for Clay and Viva to find out their little siblings are in loveπŸ˜„!

@emillyhale7557

@@purple-eyesgreydragon Indeed. 😁 I'm sure they were both pleasantly surprised.

I am curious to see if Clay and Viva's relationship possibly heads down the romantic path themselves in future Trolls films. 😏😁πŸ₯° I certainly don't expect it to happen (I'm sure they'll still be good friends and future in-laws), but it would certainly be adorable if they did. 😁πŸ₯° Branch and Poppy would be supportive I'm sure.

@MrChaotic4

I highly doubt this will be the last Trolls film since the franchise is a big revenue money maker for DreamWorks.

@cartoonsvel8167

@@MrChaotic4actually I heard they might do the fourth movie

One thing I love about the third movie is how giving Branch a family of his own, a past, a history, makes him more like a real person instead of just the "grumpy gray troll" sterotype character he's been passed off as so much of the time. For once, Branch is the main character, instead of just being Poppy's sidekick. Seeing him as an equal to Poppy is important, since he's going to be king someday.

@leonielapique

Mostly branch and poppy,s relationship is quite hard. I mean when they first met it was awkward at first and now there relationship is getting stronger and cuter. O bye the way their voice are amazing but who's your favorite troll mine is viva and Floyd

@erichfiedler1481

Dude, we know he had a grandma and that his singing lead to the burgen Chef to finding him and his grandma pushing him away so he wouldn't get eaten, hence "SINGING KILLED MY GRANDMA, OKAY!"

@bearlycute6427

It's great for Poppy in this movie because she respected Branch's decisions after she learned two important lessons from the last two movies to understand other's boundaries and why she won't force someone to be together and be happy. That's a winning goal for a queen to have a king
