Flying Home
Various Artists Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We're sitting out here on the runway,
Waiting for the plane to leave,
And the Captain says, "There'll be a short delay,
Bear with me please;"
They gave us the usual hassle,
"You can't take those guitars on board,"
But the boys in the band just smiled,
Heard it all before,
And as they're starting to serve Champagne,
To the folks at the front of the plane,
I can hear the engines roaring, we're on our way,
And we are flying home,
I feel the freedom in my soul,
Flying home at last;
Flying home,
I've got
the freedom in my soul,
And it's four in the morning,
My world is calling,
Speeding through the universe tonight...
The movie reminds me of my lady,
As she waits, "where are those guys?"
Yes it's nice to see old Butch and Sundance in the sky,
And now the sun is beginning to rise,
It's like looking down on Paradise,
There's a ball of fire that's burning, giving life,
And we are flying home,
I feel the freedom in my soul,
Flying home at last;
Flying home,
I've got the freedom in my soul,
And it's
four in the morning,

My world is calling,
Speeding through the universe tonight...

Overall Meaning

The song "Flying Home" by Various Artists is about a band waiting to board their plane, which is delayed due to the usual hassle of not being able to take their guitars on board. As they board the plane and take their seats, they begin to feel the freedom that comes with flying home, leaving all their troubles behind. They reminisce about their loved ones and are reminded of their lady through the movie playing on the plane. The sunrise makes them feel alive and they feel like they are looking down on paradise. As they speed through the universe, they know that their world is calling them, and they feel free.

The song is about the conflicting emotions musicians feel while on tour. They are excited to play music and perform in front of their fans, but they are also homesick and miss their loved ones. The lyrics capture the freedom and exhilaration of performing, as well as the joy and relief of returning home. The song is an ode to the moments of freedom and connection that come with travel and performing.

I randomly started watching this morning during takeoff on my Flight to Dubai. The timing was unreal. I literally taking off to Fly Away to start a new life. I felt like God was talking directly to me. It felt amazing.

This... this is what i call art. Gives me goosebumps, just like Elvis himself does

@Bodhismile

This is such a powerful overture/prelude for the story. Intense energy, seduction, spirit, youthful vibe, refuge and launch into an extraordinary life.

@Musicfan1020

I like the part at 2:20 when Austin starts singing more and it actually sounds like it could have been Elvis. I feel like Elvis would have used it to warm up like he did “Oh, Happy Day!”

This is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I absolutely loved watching the church scene and what a great way to introduce Austin Butler as Elvis. Baz did a really great job on this film.

@MalloryNewcomb

Was this his first scene?!
