The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
GIRLS GIRLS
Various Artists Lyrics

And bad girls don't like to pay for lip balm
I don't wanna be this bad
I don't wanna be this bad
Bad girls make mean announcements at lunch
And bad girls think that you're being a boob punch
I don't wanna be this bad
Bad! Bad! Bad! Bad!
Bad! Bad! Bad! Bad!
Bad girls like to fight with their moms
And bad girls don't use pads as tampons
I don't wanna be this bad
I don't wanna be this bad
Bad girls don't wanna go to college
And bad girls rip off all your doll's heads
I don't wanna be this bad
I don't wanna be this bad
Bad! Bad! Bad! Bad!
Bad! Bad! Bad! Bad!
I was always the good girl, but then I fell in with the wrong crowd
Now I'm mouthing off to my mom and skipping school
Are the boys and their cute butts really worth all this?
Watch out
Bad! Bad! Bad! Bad!
Bad! Bad! Bad! Bad!
The song "That Girl Bad" by Various Artists is a lighthearted and upbeat tune that explores the idea of rebelliousness and bad behavior. In the lyrics, the singer describes different actions and characteristics of so-called "bad girls" such as not wanting to go to prom, making mean announcements, fighting with their moms, and not wanting to go to college. However, despite the temptation to join in, the singer ultimately declares that they don't actually want to be "this bad."
At its core, the song is poking fun at societal expectations and norms, particularly those placed on young women. The idea of a "bad girl" is often used to shame or criticize someone who doesn't conform to traditional expectations of femininity or good behavior. In this song, however, the singer is reclaiming the label and showing that it's possible to have fun and be a little rebellious without fitting neatly into a prescribed box.
Overall, "That Girl Bad" is an enjoyable and catchy tune that celebrates individuality and nonconformity. While it may not be a deep or complex exploration of these themes, it's a fun reminder that it's okay to let loose and be a little "bad" sometimes.
