Georgia, Georgia
The whole day through
(The whole day through)
Just an old sweet song

Keeps Georgia on my mind
(Georgia on my mind)
I said a Georgia, Georgia
A song of you

Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly

Still in the peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
I said Georgia, oh Georgia
No peace I find

Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly

Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
Oh Georgia, no peace
No peace I find

Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
(Georgia on my mind)
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly

Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
Oh Georgia, Georgia
No peace, no peace I find

Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
(Georgia on my mind)

I said just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

Overall Meaning

The song "Georgia On My Mind" was written by Stuart Gorrell and Hoagy Carmichael and was first recorded by Carmichael in 1930. The song gained popularity when it was recorded by Ray Charles in 1960 and added to his album, "The Genius Hits the Road." Ray's version became an instant hit and has since been recognized as the state song of Georgia.

The lyrics are a love letter to Georgia, with the singer reminiscing about the state and the memories it holds for them. The song is a testament to the power of memory and the ability of music to evoke emotions. The first verse sets the scene with the singer singing about how a sweet old song keeps Georgia on their mind throughout the whole day. They continue to sing about how the song reminds them of Georgia and how other arms and eyes may reach out to them, but they still see peaceful dreams of Georgia.

The second verse is a repeat of the first, and they sing about the road leading them back to Georgia. The final verse ends the song with the singer singing about how they find no peace without Georgia and how the sweet old song continues to keep Georgia on their mind.

Overall, "Georgia On My Mind" is a beautiful tribute to the state of Georgia and the memories it holds. It is a song that has stood the test of time and continues to evoke emotions in listeners more than ninety years after it was first written.

My name is Georgia. My dad's family was from Georgia. I was born in 1941 and Daddy insisted I would be named Georgia! Many years later, I was a student at Ohio State University in Ohio and a guy dated got tickets to surprise me to see Ray Charles and the Rayettes at the Auditorium. What a show it was!! One of the best nights of my life..Ray Charles is a master of song and when he sang "Georgia On My Mind" , I had tears in my eyes..so beautiful! I'll never forget it!
