Give Me Rhythm
Various Artists Lyrics

Give me a little old fashioned love the kind that lingers through the years
The kind that's made by God up above give me a little old fashioned love
Now you can have the girls with rosy cheeks the ones that coo like turtle dove
I just want a simple girl that's sweet so give me a little old fashioned love
[ guitar ]
Now you can have the girls that's dressed so nice
From their head down to their little feet
But if you want some real good advice the old fashioned girls just can't be beat
So give me a little old fashioned love...
[ steel ]
Now you can have the girls with wordly ways that's had a dozen so called love affair
But they'll never make me their slave I want a simple girl that's on the square
So give me a little old fashioned love...

I have been searching to find this song for more than 20years....no one believed me when I said there was a male vocal version and I had this on cassette before Groove Theory brought it out 18mths later. This song is everything!

@jayd3455

Glad u found it, that would’ve been frustrating lol

@toddpace4588

Well Amel Larrieux who was the lead vocalist of Groove Theory actually wrote this for Rhythm N Bass. Her voice is even heard in this version. This version didnt perform well on the charts at all so she decided to sing it herself and put it on the Groove Theory album as they needed one more song.

@@toddpace4588 Makes more sense considering it was a woman's voice to begin with. The first time I heard the Groove Theory version, it resonated with me from the female POV. It just feels different in the GT version, not because I'm used to it, but the flow is just so much better. More naturally heartfelt. It's gentler and more romantic when Amel sings it. It lacks umph with the fellas. ijs

@xandykkaudy8252

understandable why you couldn't find it, it was just uploaded on YouTube 2 years ago, somebody must have found their old cassette lol

@@toddpace4588 YUP! I just found out exactly what u said 5mins ago. That’s what brought me here to listen to this UK πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ group.

This is definitely an early 90s sound. Groove Theory had a mid-late 90s sound.

@thebeatnumber

I'd say reworked version by Amel of Groove Theory (who wrote and arranged this version as well) has more of a 70s influence. This is more New Jack sounding.

@alteredpenguin2073

@@thebeatnumber The Groove Theory one does have a 70s influence but with the beat and bass it is contemporary with the sound of the late 90s. It mixes with the same sound as Dru Hill, BlackStreet, Ginuwine etc. Like i mentioned also early 90s would encapsulate New Jack Sound.

@imalwaysright

@@thebeatnumber They both co-write and I believe Bryce of Groove produced both versions
