Heaven
Various Artists Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven will it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don’t belong here in heaven

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven
I’ll find my way, through night and day
Cause I know I just can’t stay
Here in heaven

Time can bring you down
Time can bend your knee
Time can break your heart
Have you begging please begging please

Beyond the door there’s peace I’m sure
And I know there’ll be no more
Tears in heaven

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don’t belong here in heaven

Cause I know I don’t belong here in heaven

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Heaven by Various Artists are about reminiscing the past and cherishing the present. The first verse sets the tone for the entire song as the singer describes a picture of someone's house with the person standing at the door. The picture is old, faded, and worn, but it brings back vivid memories of the factory where he used to work. The singer reflects on the memories of the past and how they are now returning to him.

The second verse describes how much the singer loves the movements and the sparkle in the person's eyes. The imagery of the color deep inside the night like a blue suburban sky adds to the romanticism of the song. The bridge of the song highlights the idea that the singer doesn't need to be someone renowned or famous, as long as he is the hero of this one girl, he is content.

The chorus of the song sets up the idea that heaven isn't that far away, it is just getting closer every day. The singer and the girl are finding their way and will always be close to heaven, no matter what others say. The final verse talks about how the memories come rushing back, making it hard to move forward. But, ultimately, the singer will never give up on the person he loves, and he will always be there for her.
