The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

Say, it's all right
It's all right, have a good time
'Cause it's all right, whoa, it's all right
We're gonna move it slow
When the lights are low
When you move it slow, it sounds like more
Now listen to the beat
Kinda pat your feet
You got soul and everybody knows
That it's all right, whoa, it's all right
When you wake up early in the mornin'
Feelin' sad like so many of us do
Hum a little soul make life your goal
And surely something's got to come to you
And say it's all right
Say it's all right
Say it's all right, have a good time
'Cause it's all right, whoa, it's all right
Everybody clap your hands
Now give yourself a chance
You got soul, and everybody knows
That it's all right, whoa, it's all right
Someday I'll find me a woman
Who will love and treat me real nice
Then my woe's got to go
And my love, she will know
From morning, noon, and night
And she's got to say it's all right
Say it's all right
Say it's all right, have a good time
'Cause it's all right, whoa, it's all right
Everybody clap your hands
Now give yourselves a chance
You got soul, you got soul
"It's Alright" by Various Artists is a song that emphasizes the message of positivity and living life in the present moment. The lyrics of the song encourage the listener to enjoy life and have a good time because it's all right, despite any challenges or setbacks they may face. The chorus repeats the phrase "Say, it's all right" several times, driving the point home that everything will be okay. The song suggests that by moving slowly and savoring each moment, life will seem more fulfilling, and the beat of the music will lift one's spirit. The song encourages the listener to hum along or clap to the beat to feel the energy and soul of the music.
The song also suggests that even when things aren't going well, an individual can still be positive, find their inner soul and make the most out of life. The lines "when you wake up early in the morning feeling sad like so many of us do, hum a little soul, make life your goal, and surely something's got to come to you" emphasizes that a positive outlook on life can help one manifest their dreams.
In the third verse, the song shifts its focus to love and finding that special someone who will treat us right. The lyrics suggest that when we find someone who loves and treats us nicely, life will become fulfilling and worth living. The song ends with a repetition of the same message of positivity and encouragement to have fun and enjoy life.
