The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

Aint that the reason youre at this club. Oh. Oh.
You aint gonna find a dance with him. No. Oh.
Got a better solution for you girl. Oh. Oh.
Just stay with me now. Say the word and well go.
Ill be your teacher. Ill show you the ropes.
Youll see a side of love you've never known.
In my head, I see you all over me.
In my head, you fulfill my fantasy.
Youll be screaming no.
In my head, its going down.
In my head, its going down.
In my head. Yeah. In my head. Oh yeah.
Some dudes know all the right things to say.
When it comes down to it, its just a game.
Instead of talking let me demonstrate. Yeah.
Get down to business lets skip foreplay.
Just leave with me now. Say the word and well go.
Ill be your teacher. Ill show you the ropes.
You'll see a side of love you've never known.
I can see it going down, going down.
In my head, I see you all over me.
In my head, you fulfill my fantasy.
Youll be screaming no.
In my head, its going down.
In my head, its going down.
In my head.
Break it down. Ay-oh. Come on. Ay-oh. Ay-oh.
You singing to me baby in my head right now. Ay-oh. Ay-oh. Come on.
Shell be screaming out when it all goes down.
Just leave with me now. Say the word and well go. We can go.
Ill be your teacher. Ill show you the ropes.
Youll see a side of love youve never known.
I can see it going down, going down.
In my head, I see you all over me.
In my head, you fulfill my fantasy.
Youll be screaming no.
In my head, its going down.
In my head, its going down.
In my head, I see you all over me.
In my head, you fulfill my fantasy.
Youll be screaming more.
In my head, its going down.
In my head, its going down.
In my head.
The lyrics of "In My Head" by Various Artists are about a guy who sees a beautiful girl at the club and offers to teach her the ropes of love. He claims that he can help her experience a side of love she's never known before, and sees a future where they are intimately involved. The song is suggestive in nature, with the implication being that the two will engage in a sexual relationship.
The chorus is particularly striking, with the refrain "In my head, I see you all over me. In my head, you fulfill my fantasy." suggesting that the singer is building up a vivid imaginary scenario in which he and the girl have a steamy encounter. The lyrics are evocative and sensual, playing up the sexual tension between the two characters.
The bridge of the song builds on this tension, with the call-and-response "Ay-oh" section creating a sort of musical climax as the singer sings that he can hear the girl screaming in his head when they finally get down to business.
Overall, "In My Head" is a sultry and intense song that showcases a powerful attraction between two people.
