It's Christmas Time
Various Artists Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's Christmas time
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmas time
We let in light and we banish shade

And in our world of plenty
We can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world
At Christmas time

But say a prayer
Pray for the other ones
At Christmas time it's hard

But when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window

And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is

The bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that are ringing
Are clanging chimes of doom

Well, tonight thank God it's them instead of you.

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time.
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmas time
Feed the world
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

Here's to you
raise a glass for everyone
Here's to them
underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmas time again

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmas time again

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmas time again

Overall Meaning

The song "It's Christmas Time" by Various Artists is a powerful anthem that calls for unity, love, and compassion for those less fortunate during the holiday season. The opening lines remind us that this is a time for joy and light, and that we have the ability to share that joy with others. But the lyrics quickly remind us that there are many in the world who are suffering and struggling, and that we have a responsibility to reach out to them.

The song highlights the contrast between the celebration of Christmas in the West with the reality in Africa where there is no snow, rain or rivers- a poignant depiction of the plight of those living in poverty. The lyrics are a plea for people in the developed world to recognize their good fortunes and use their abundance to help those who are less fortunate. It’s a reminder that we should not forget to pray or offer assistance to those that are facing hardship during the holiday, even while we are enjoying the festivities.

As the song ends, it returns to a call for action- an urging to feed the world and make sure that everyone knows it's Christmas time. The message is clear - we can all make a difference, and there is no better time than the present to start spreading love, hope and joy.

@SuperLusername

As they always will be. Africa is a long way from being developed. Even with America, EU and China pumping tons and tons of money into infrastructure and other aid in Africa, it is simply not enough.
And it will never be enough. The difficult truth is that no matter how hard we try to build Africa with money and without it (doctors without borders, voluntary schools...), we cant feed all the hungry people.
Africans need work, jobs. That way they could survive, but there is no work for everyone because there is so much people compared to development of infrastructure. For every new workplace created there are 3 new born Africans.
In 30 years Africa will have doubled it's population, DOUBLED!
And in 80 years it will have a population of around 4 billion!
Compared to 1.3 billion today.

All the while it is amlost imposiible to reach half of Africa, and those are the place most in need. Why? Because they are in the state of constant war, warlords, separatists, government forces...and it won't end soon.

I'm afraid all we can do is keep giving them money to survive and let them settle their differences, unless someone prefers a direct interevention - USA style.
