The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
Save a Prayer
Various Artists Lyrics

Corner of a main street
And the lights are flashing on your window sill
All alone ain't much fun
So you're looking for the thrill
And you know just what it takes and where to go
Don't say a prayer for me now
Save it 'til the morning after
Save it 'til the morning after
Feel the breeze deep on the inside
Look you down into the well
If you can, you'll see the world in all his fire
Take a chance
Like all dreamers can't find another way
You don't have to dream it all, just live a day
Don't say a prayer for me now
Save it 'til the morning after
No, don't say a prayer for me now
Save it 'til the morning after
Save it 'til the morning after
Save it till the morning after
Pretty looking road
I try to hold the rising floods that fill my skin
Don't ask me why I'll keep my promise
I'll melt the ice
And you wanted to dance so I asked you to dance
But fear is in your soul
Some people call it a one night stand
But we can call it paradise
Don't say a prayer for me now
Save it 'til the morning after
No, don't say a prayer for me now
Save it 'til the morning after
Save it 'til the morning after
Save it 'til the morning after
Save it 'til the morning after
Save it 'til the morning after
Save a prayer 'til the morning after
The lyrics of "Save a Prayer" by Various Artists suggest that the song is about a night of wild excitement and enjoyment. The singer is out on the town, and meets someone who is looking for a thrill. They both know what they want and where to go, and they don't need any prayers or pious wishes to guide them. They're living for the moment and enjoying every bit of it. The song encourages the listener to take a chance, to live a day, and to experience the world in all its fire. It's a call to embrace life, to seize the day, and to make the most of every moment, without worrying about the consequences.
The reference to "morning after" in the title and chorus suggests a sense of apprehension, as though the singer is aware that the night may have its consequences. It's almost as though they're asking the listener to hold off on any prayers or good wishes until the consequences have been dealt with. The lyrics also suggest a sense of romance or connection - the singer dances with someone whom they call paradise, even if it's just a one-night stand. All of this is set against a backdrop of lights and energy, with references to flashing lights, well, and rising floods, all suggesting the intensity of the night and the feelings it inspires.
Overall, "Save a Prayer" is a song about seizing the day, taking risks, and living for the moment. It's a song that speaks to the human desire for excitement, passion, and connection, and encourages us to embrace life, even when it's uncertain and risky.
