The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.

Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.

Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.

Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.

Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

There were sketches between each singer (the beginnings of Rowan Atkinson) so I always have a little trouble imagining how to calm down after a big laugh. The charity show is available on Youtube but with very poor mono sound quality. Thank you.

I found this vinyl in a flea market in 1996, I was curious to hear this version of "The roof is leaking" by Phil Collins. At the time I was still a teenager and borrowed a lot of records from the library in my town to make cassettes.
I had my music mentor there and, a few days after buying this record, he told me about it because it had just been reissued for the first time on CD.
My record is a French pressing, the good audio quality on the French pressings as well as those from Holland and west Germany was really lower compared to the British, American or Japanese pressings.

Even for a French pressing, the quality sounds pretty good to me on here...I like the sounds of the crackling too, which isn't that noticeable but just takes you back to the good ol' vinyl days. I grew up with vinyls...first had stacks of 45's, and then I started buying albums, and still have some of them. I'm not a musician, but music has always been a huge part of my life, and still is. Again, really appreciate you putting this album on your channel. And by the way, if you are French, your English is very good!

I ordered this on CD from EBay a few years ago; naturally my daughter who was not yet born in ‘82 fell in love with it, and thus has “inherited” it, very happily. I recently searched again-the price has gone up so much in just a few years that it’s prohibitive; but I’m glad people are listening to it; and that it has such value. It means good taste has not truly died ...:)

In 1982 ... I was not very old, only 3 years old, I did not know this disc at all, I found it shortly before its first edition on compact disc, it must have been in 1995 or 96, j I really liked the track "The Roof Is Leaking" by Papa Phil Collins and a few weeks later my musical "mentor" told me about this reissue on CD, so I told him I had just bought it on vinyl . At the end of the 90s I worked in a media library, I could borrow a lot of albums, make copies on cassettes and then on CDs. I took advantage of the quality material that was at my disposal to compare the quality of vinyl records against CDs, our first Compact Discs had been bought in 1983, they were not even 20 years old when I did this comparison. Of course the CD offers a sound quality that vinyl is unable to achieve but, over time, it loses bass and treble leaving a very neutral sound, some CDs even deteriorate without being touched. I like all audio formats, I built my hi-fi to be able to listen to all successful formats (LP, cd, K7, Mini Disc, Vhs, dvd / blu ray and all digital formats) everything is connected on an old amplifier but I save everything I can to hard drives because there is no perfect format and most importantly music, youtube at poor audio quality. I prepare this record during the night (a little wash and a listen) and I send you a link to download it tomorrow. I do not know what time it is at all, here it is after 9 pm. @The KoxVI Experience - Musical Box I was born in ‘66 so have some years on you but you have excellent taste and it’s amazing you had access to that media library & clearly learned a lot. Although I have a feeling you were expert on this anyway. I a musicophile if there is such a thing? But zero knowledge technically. I know a lot about music on a consumer-listening level, and madly collect every genre; but I don’t know much on the technical side especially digitally. I probably own 7 versions of every record released by Genesis, Phil Collins & Peter Gabriel solo Clapton Pink Floyd Bowie but digitally I only know that I hear best from computer to ears, in wav and FLAC. But I do not know what that means. And I always thought CD had the longest life, that’s what they sold us when they started releasing them. I remember buying my first CD in 1993 or so. I think my very first cd was Peter Gabriel secret world live. It’s odd to think that before that it was about 10 years of cassette which is horrible quality when you think about it. But I was shocked to read from you that the CD perhaps deteriorates. Even to this day when I love some thing I try to buy vinyl & CD at least 1 copy of each. Then I put LP away in a special place, so it doesn’t get ruined, and I listen to the CD because I’m thinking that will be the longest lasting no matter how many times I handle it. Now I’m upset that it’s not the case! Because if a CD deteriorates then what’s the point. Because the beautiful item of value is the vinyl. So now I’m thinking I should get rid of my CDs & digitize the vinyls! PS Thank you for any wav links. But please don’t go to the trouble if it’s time consuming. I’m just so mad at the record companies who kept advertising 24/7 with full-page ads when CD’s first came out: they “never deteriorate”!

Hello, sorry for the response time, I have a really bad connection and posting an album to the Google cloud is taking a long time. Don't be horrified at what I said on the cd, I made this comparison with records in the media library, they were heavily borrowed, I can't even know how many people listened to these records between 1983 and 1997 When you have a huge collection of records, you don't always listen to the same ones, so your personal CDs don't risk anything. If you want, do this experiment, buy a new cd (something worthless, like Celine Dion ha ha) buy an old cheap cd player and repeat the cd on one track for a month. After a month you are listening to the entire disc and this title that you have repeated will have lost all its bass and treble. Me too, I am a true lover of Genesis, moreover I put all the albums for the 50 years of the band, I really like the Phil Collins period, I discovered Genesis at the age of 4 with the 1983 album, musically I prefer the period of Peter Gabriel. I was lucky to have a mentor in this record section of the media library, he too was born in 1966, he directed me to so many artists and obscure musical varieties that I would always be grateful to him. Can you write to me about a less successful video please? Finally I prefer to avoid making a game, the record companies allow me to put their albums, they advertise them but if they see that I offer albums without loss of quality and especially without ads, they risk not be happy. I would send you the link on this video and once you download it I would delete the message. Rest assured, I often do it for my friends, I created a discord server by offering all the refused albums for the youtube channel, if you want to come, say it but everyone speaks French, I myself do not speak very good english (thanks google) but i made a lot of albums available. Mi cráneo se abrió en 4 gajos y allí en ese momento cesó el viento de sonar en mí...El cosmos giró y desde otra dimensión esta música volvió a galvanizar mis átomos hasta re ensamblar mis moléculas, de ese modo percibí instintivamente mi destino, ser otro juglar redactando historias entre poesías y músicas....Este disco fue incidentalmente me provoco una revelación ! I was 21 when I first watched The Secret Policeman's Ball. I was in college, in the island province of Negros in the Philippines, and my friends and I prepared the very best weed before firing up the Betamax machine.. It didn't go to waste. In fact, it was kinda life changing for us. It was our first exposure to Monty Python and we were totally blown away with the comedy and the music. I had heard some of the songs before, specially Sting's, but the pared-down sound was a revelation. And Beck and Clapton! And that incredible kid drummer (who I later learned was no kid but the great Simon Philips). This concert informed our artistic lives from then on. I became an actor, a writer, a conceptual designer and rock and jazz drummer for the legendary band The Jerks, and two of my friends Joel Torre and Ronnie Lazaro are now among the most revered actors in the Philippines, and another good friend now edits for John Sayles (and HIS brother got a Nobel Prize!). We formed a comedy group inspired by the Pythons and this concert continues to inspire us to this day.

Hi, it was reissued around 1996 on CD, my version is a French vinyl, I found it in a flea market in 1995. Ho and then damn, today I am 42 years old, I see the file sent in wav format to download. After 39 years of waiting and so long travel, you deserve it ;-) .

I bought this disc in the 90s for "The Roof Is Leaking" by P. Collins but recently I saw that this disc was very widespread on discogs and really inexpensive. The real problem with my old records is that many are French, they are lower quality pressing than the British, American or Japanese. I also recovered a lot of discs in very bad condition because my mother is absolutely not careful and putting discs in their sleeves was obviously too tiring. thank you.

Merci, je suis assez satisfait car l'encodage de Youtube fait disparaître assez de sons parasites, prochainement je compte investir dans un bras anti statique et après avoir bien nettoyer mes plus anciens disques à la colle à bois, les ranger dans des pochettes anti statique (qui, je pense devraient obligatoirement être vendu avec les disques), récemment j'ai acheté deux disques neuf, le Dummy de Portishead (toujours sous emballage après 24 ans) et le double 101 de Depeche mode en réédition, dès la première écoute bien que le son soit vraiment bon, le Portishead, vendu sans ces anti statique avait ces petits crépitements (j'ai mis le disque sur la chaîne mais il est interdit pour la France). Le Depeche Mode, lui, avec ses pochettes anti statique n'a aucun bruits parasites même après plusieurs écoutes, c'est une réédition d'excellente qualité, s'il n'y est pas déjà, je le mettrait cette semaine.

@MrJag072 lorsqu'elle sont interdite sur toute la planète je la retire car c'est un risque à se prendre un avertissement, le choix des pays où certains disques sont interdits est parfois étrange, les belges peuvent profiter du 45 tours "Joe le taxi" en pressage français d'époque mais pas les français, le titre de la face B "Varvara Plavnovna" à été refusé, c'est pourtant une bonne chanson.
Le crépitement est souvent agréable mais sur des titres acoustiques comme les deux titres de Papa (heuuu Phil Collins désolé) ça devient problématique et pourtant le disque n'a pas une rayure et à été largement nettoyé avant sa numérisation, là j'écoute un Donovan en pressage néerlandais et les Pop sont bien plus rare. Il faut le dire mais avant les pressage européens, les disques français étaient les pires au niveau qualité, même les disques français pressé en Allemagne de l'est avant 1989 étaient de bien meilleur qualité, c c'est juste honteux.
