See You Again
Various Artists Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You were once
My one companion
You were all
That mattered
You were once
A friend and father
Then my world
Was shattered

Wishing you were
Somehow here again
Wishing you were
Somehow near
Sometimes it seemed
If I just dreamed,
Somehow you would
Be here

Wishing I could
Hear your voice again
Knowing that I
Never would
Dreaming of you
Won't help me to do
All that you dreamed
I could

Passing bells
And sculpted angels,
Cold and monumental,
Seem, for you,
The wrong companions
You were warm and gentle

Too many years
Fighting back tears
Why can't the past
Just die?

Wishing you were
Somehow here again
Knowing we must
Say goodbye
Try to forgive
Teach me to live
Give me the strength
To try

No more memories,
No more silent tears
No more gazing across
The wasted years

Help me say
Goodbye.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "You Were the One" by Various Artists revolves around the theme of loss, grief and longing. The singer laments about losing someone who was once their one companion, a friend, and father in their life. The person was warm, gentle and everything that mattered to the singer, but their world was shattered when they left. The singer wishes that the person was somehow here again, so they could hear their voice, and for once their dreams would come true.

The lyrics also refer to passing bells and sculpted angels, which seem to the singer as the wrong companions for the person they lost. It suggests that the person was warm, alive and human, while the bells and angels are cold, monumental and lifeless. The singer also expresses their frustration about fighting back tears for too many years, and how the past cannot simply die.

Towards the end of the song, the singer attempts to try and move on from their grief, even though they will never forget the person they lost. They ask for forgiveness, strength and guidance to live on and say goodbye to their memories and the silent tears.

Overall, the lyrics of "You Were the One" embody a deep sense of loss and longing, and the struggle to cope with grief and move on from the past.

Lost my 30yrs old sister Mika in 11/2016, older brother 34yrs old on 01/20/2018 (my birthday which I don't celebrate anymore), and my 19yrs little bro on 05/2018. What hurts the most is seeing my nephews and niece asking for their mommy and daddy.. This song let's me know that we'll all meet again in heaven! I have never in my 36yrs of my life have I heard about their loved one passing away on their birthday or so close to each other and do not want to hear ever about it. God bless everyone and keep everyone safe.
