The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten PrΓΆfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
So Good
Various Artists Lyrics

In the middle of Paris with a Dominican broad
Great head on her shoulders, she probably studied abroad
She transferred to Harvard from King's College in March
She says that I'm her favorite, cause she admires the art
Of Michelangelo with the flow, Picasso with the bars
She's well put together like a piece by Gershwin
Renaissance style, tonight is picture perfect
Cause you'll be gone for a while
Girl tell me how you feel, what your fantasy oh
I see us on a beach down in Mexico
You can put your feet up, be my seΓ±orita
We ain't gotta rush just take it slow
You'll be in the high life
Soaking up the sunlight
Anything you want is yours
I'll have you living life like you should
You say you never had it so good
La la la la la la la la la
You never had it so good
La la la la la la la la la
You never had it so good
Suffering from first class cabin fever
Five hour layovers from Norway to Egypt
I'm to the point like the pyramids of Giza
Still I'm to the left like the tower out in Pisa
I'm feeling single baby, I could use a feature
Swagger like Caesar, I'll get you a visa
We can go to Italy, and maybe see the Colosseum
I'll be Da Vinci if you'll be my Mona Lisa
Now smile, and pack your bags real good, baby
Cause you'll be gone for a while
Girl tell me how you feel, what your fantasy oh
I see us on a beach down in Mexico
You can put your feet up, be my seΓ±orita
We ain't gotta rush just take it slow
You'll be in the high life
Soaking up the sunlight
Anything you want is yours
I'll have you living life like you should
You say you never had it so good
La la la la la la la la la la
You never had it so good
La la la la la la la la la la
You never had it so good
La la la la la la la la la la
Well I been feeling singular, how about let's make it plural
Spin the globe, whatever it lands that's where we'll go
We'll hit up Europe, yep, and spend some Euros
And maybe visit Berlin, the walls with the murals
This is your month baby, sign of the Virgo
Private reservations, glasses full of Merlot
A RosΓ©, a Burgundy, traveling like turbo
Brush up on your EspaΓ±ol, we're Barcelona bound
Smile, and pack your bags real good, baby
Cause you'll be gone for a while
Girl tell me how you feel, what your fantasy oh
I see us on a beach down in Mexico
You can put your feet up, be my seΓ±orita
We ain't gotta rush just take it slow
You'll be in the high life
Soaking up the sunlight
Anything you want is yours
I'll have you living life like you should
You say you never had it so good
La la la la la la la la la la
You never had it so good
La la la la la la la la la la
You never had it so good
La la la la la la la la la la
You never had it so good
La la la la la la la la la la
You never had it so good
The lyrics of Various Artists' "So Good" depict the lifestyle of someone living the high life, traveling around the world, experiencing exotic locations, and enjoying the finer things. The first verse talks about being in Paris, enjoying a German beer, and a Cuban cigar with a classy lady who has a great head on her shoulders. She studied abroad, transferred to Harvard from King's College, and admires the art of Michelangelo and Picasso. The second verse takes us on a journey from Norway to Egypt and all the way to Italy where the singer and their companion plan to visit Berlin's walls with the murals, and travel to Barcelona, Spain. The lyrics have a playful, romantic tone throughout, with the chorus repeating that the woman has never had it so good and emphasizing the leisurely and relaxing nature of their time together.
