The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

And I hope you know you've lost my respect
You better watch out
If you don't know whats going on around you
You better think twice
Before you fly off the handle and lose it
You better join us
You better rise against
The demons that are gonna try and hold you down
Does it run in your blood to betray the ones you love?
Does it run in your blood to betray the ones you love?
Does it run in your blood to betray the ones you love?
Does it run in your blood to betray the ones you love?
The ones you love, the ones you love, the ones you love
Cause I'm not a pawn for you to play in your fucking game
I've got dignity and a dream that I want to achieve
The pressure, your troubled and you let me down
I'm not deaf and all I hear is your empty promises
Does it run in your blood to betray the ones you love?
Does it run in your blood to betray the ones you love?
The ones you love, the ones you love, the ones you love
Does it run in your blood to betray the ones you love?
Yes it runs in your blood to betray the ones you love!
Yes it runs in your blood to betray the ones you love!
Yes it runs in your blood to betray the ones you love!
I will forgive but I won't forget
And I hope you know you've lost my respect
Yes it runs in your blood to betray the ones you love
Yes it runs in your blood to betray the ones you love
The lyrics of "The Blood" revolve around themes of betrayal, forgiveness, and self-respect. The song makes clear that although the singer may forgive someone who has betrayed them, they will not forget what has happened and that person has lost their respect. The first verse warns the subject of the song to be aware of their surroundings and control their emotions before they "lose it". The second verse expresses the singer's frustration with empty promises and being let down. The chorus questions whether it is in someone's blood to betray those they love, with the repeated line "Does it run in your blood to betray the ones you love?" The final verse confirms that, for the subject of the song, it does indeed run in their blood to betray those they love.
The lyrics could apply to a wide range of situations, from a romantic relationship to a friendship or even business partnership. Different artists could interpret the song in different ways, depending on their own experiences and worldview. A punk or metal band might give the lyrics a harder, more aggressive edge, while a folk or indie artist could give the song a more introspective and melancholy feel. The song could also be interpreted as a call to stand up against those who would try to bring you down, to stay true to yourself, and to hold onto your self-respect even in the face of betrayal.
