The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

Every now and then I get a little bit lonely
And you never come around
(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit tired
Of listen to the sound of my tears
(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit nervous
(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit terrified
And then I see the look in yours eyes
(Turn aroundbright eyes) Every now and then I fall apart (x2)
Every now and then I get a little bit restless
And I dream of somethin wild
(turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit helpless
And i'm lying like a child in your arms
(turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit angry
And I know I have to get out and cry
(turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit terrified
And then I see the look in your eyes
(turn around bright eyes)Every now and then I fall apart(x2)
Chorus
And I need you now tonight
And I need you more tan ever
And if you only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll always make it right
Never could be wrong
Together we can take it to the end of the life
Life we could share only all of the time
(All of the time)
All we have to do, I always tell you that
Is living in a funny game giving us love
I really need you tonight!!
Forever is gonna start tonight
Forever is gonna start tonight
Once upon a time, I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
It's a total eclipse of the heart
Chorus
Once upon a time...
"Total Eclipse of the Heart" is a power ballad, written and performed by Jim Steinman and sung by Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler. The song was released in 1983 and went on to become a global hit, reaching number one in several countries. The song’s lyrics talk about love, loneliness, longing, and the ups and downs of relationships. The song is known for its dramatic and emotional lyrics and has since become a classic of the '80s.
The verses in the song describe the singer's feelings of loneliness, nervousness, helplessness, and anger that she experiences when her lover is not around. However, in the chorus, she expresses her need for this lover and declares that they will be together forever, no matter what. The lines, "Once upon a time, I was falling in love, but now I'm only falling apart" suggest that the singer has been hurt by love before and that she is scared of falling in love again.
The song includes the iconic lyrics "Turn around, bright eyes," which has become synonymous with the song. These lyrics have been interpreted in many ways, but most commonly, they suggest that the singer is asking her lover to look at her and acknowledge her feelings. Overall, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is a song about the complexities of romantic relationships and the struggle to find love and hold onto it.
