The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.

Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.

Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.

Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.

Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

I lost my mom last year to cancer and now my father ( Best friend, role model, hero ) is sick in the hospital. Life is a massive emotional roller coaster. Don't know what I would do without him. Wow! I thought I was the only one who was having these issues.
Thank you for letting it out… We are living in a disposable society and everything is about "instant gratification" today… Lastly, the days of radio are gone because we used to use our imagination by listening to words, lyrics and sounds of musical instruments. I cannot understand what is playing on the radio today; so I settle for the "oldies but goodies"…

MrTanker10a no you are not old they just found a way to get rich quick so they sacrificed quality over quantity. mass producing microwave, instant music. makes me sick because music used to be like a good book that transports you to another place, a de stressor, these days many of them don't even play an instrument not many male singers or groups and the female singers are like strippers at a karaoke bar. gyrating and lip-syncing their way to fame. I don't see how they lasted this long with that mess.

So true, that. So many of today's youth are basically brain dead and depressed because they are totally encouraged to be dumb and narcissistic. They have few choices for a relationship that is long lasting. I feel sorry for them, and wish them happiness such as we enjoyed in the early years.

yeah and they brag about being rich. I don't remember them bragging like that years ago with the REAL music. that kind of power definitely goes to the head when you are so young. they are quick to disrespect parents and people who got them there. being humble is a foreign concept to them. humble??? what's that? the only one I can stand to listen to is Alicia Keys. Sweet girl. reminds of the earlier music of days gone by and she sings with her clothes on. not saying just as good but close. with time she will be as good. her music is real, the lyrics have weight, substance, and she plays the piano. talented. I don't hate the others. I just disapprove greatly of their style and music and I miss what we had basically.

goinxnginx You are so right, I have young daughters and older daughters, grand daughters and grandson. that it;s more to music than "Drop It's Hot".
.My older daughters were made with this type of music on my mind. Didn't need a beat all you had to do is open up your window and listen to the boys on the corner.
