Performed by Goldfinger

So here I am
Doing everything I can
Holding on to what I am
Pretending I'm a superman

I'm trying to keep
The ground on my feet
It seems the world's
Falling down around me

The nights are all long
I'm singing this song
To try and make the answers
More than maybe

And I'm so confused
About what to do
Sometimes I want
To throw it all away

So here I am
Growing older all the time
Looking older all the time
Feeling younger in my mind

And here I am
Doing everything I can
Holding on to what I am
Pretending I'm a superman

I'm trying to sleep
I lost count of the sheep
My mind is racing faster
Every minute

What could I do more
Yeah I'm really not sure
I know I'm running circles
But I can't quit

And I'm so confused
About what to do
Sometimes I want
To throw it all away

Controlling everything in site
I'm feeling weak
I don't feel right
You're telling me
I have to change
Telling me to act my age
But if all that I can do
Is just sit and watch time go
Then I'll have to say good-bye
Life's too short to watch it fly
To watch it fly

So here I am
Growing older all the time
Looking older all the time
Feeling younger in my mind

And here I am
Doing everything I can

Holding on to what I am
Pretending I'm a superman

Overall Meaning

The song "Superman" by Goldfinger, from the album "Hang-Ups," is about the pressures of life and the desire to escape them. The opening lyrics, "So here I am, doing everything I can, holding on to what I am, pretending I'm a Superman," reveal the singer's desire to be a hero, to be strong and invincible in the face of life's problems. The repetition of the phrase "doing everything I can" throughout the song underscores the singer's struggle to keep going despite the difficulties they face.

The singer is overwhelmed by the world around them, which seems to be "falling down" and making them feel confused and uncertain about what to do. They're trying to keep their feet on the ground and stay grounded, but everything is moving too fast, and they're struggling to keep pace. The phrase "pretending I'm a Superman" could be seen as a metaphor for the singer's attempt to put on a brave face and act like they have everything under control when, in fact, they don't.

Overall, "Superman" is a song about the struggle to stay strong in the face of adversity, and the sense of powerlessness that can come with that struggle.

I remember him from when I worked on Hollywood Boulevard for two summers in 2010 and 2011. I was a salesman for the hollywood tours. During 2010, the city implemented a ban on the costume actors. They respected the ban and then were like 'we need money to live' and I spoke to Christopher and he said being arrested is a risk they'll have to take because they need to survive. Sure enough, they started arresting characters. I remember how shocking it was to see Superman in cuffs and put into a police car. If you google photo-search 'superman arrested hollywood boulevard' there is a photo.

The ban was put in place because some of the characters were fighting with each other, or swearing at people who didn't tip. Just not a good look for the city. There was way too many characters also.

The ban was overturn in the courts I believe.

As for Christopher, it's a tragic life on the strip. Even as a salesman, I felt like I wasn't much higher up the ladder than the homeless who were begging for money. Working a commission only job really made you struggle on days when nobody was buying. He too would have had those horrible days where you barely make enough to pay rent and a meal.

What struck me about Christopher was that he was an ageing superman. I remember he told me his natural hair color was actually blonde, but he looked like he was going grey at the roots. And his skin was bad. Every day outside with the wind and the sun was ageing him. I worked with sunscreen, hat and shades but obviously superman can't dress like that.

To hear that he ended up dying in a donations bin is just so tragic. But it sums up the life of those who work on Hollywood Boulevard. You don't want to stay there forever. The city will eat you alive. Rest in Peace Christopher.

My name is Maximus Bats Allen. I at one time was Superman's best friend. I played The Batman with Christopher for over 5 years. We did "Confusions of a Stupid Hero", "Jimmy Kimmel show", Documentaries, Fan Films and so many other things.
All in all, Christopher Dennis was a Super Great Guy, who would try to help as many as he could, just to be a Superhero. We both did. We were a Team on the boulevard and we used to bank in the big bucks. Christopher Dennis never got into Meth, while we were together. He did mention he used to have the habit but he kicked it and was doing good. The only habit I saw of Christopher was that he was terribly arrogant, narcissistic and a complete bragger. That is what came in between The Dark Knight and the Man of Steel.
Unfortunately the other bad habit that Chris had was women. In the end he had fooled around on his wife, a lady named Bonnie, whom he married in the documentary, "Confusions of a Stupid Hero", he fooled around on her more times than Tiger Woods did on His. He tried to convince Bonnie to let him move in this Chinese woman so she could be a concubine for him. NO BS!
But one day he met a young woman who was 12 years or so younger than him and she had the habit of Meth. Of course he got caught up in it with her and from there lost everything that he had, including his wife Bonnie. There were Court battles over who owned what in the Superman museum that he and Bonnie had built together. Chris was selling things behind her back and eventually they lost the Storage Locker they had, because they could not pay it. Too far behind, because of his habit, of course then.......
Eventually Chris lost everything including the young girl on Meth that he had met and left Bonnie for.
Christopher Dennis did become homeless and was in a shelter from time to time. There he met the lady in the wheelchair. She had a very brutal ex-boyfriend. The lady's ex-boyfriend, had a temper with a very bad jealous streak, thus why the girl in the wheelchair was hiding from him in the shelter. They befriended each other and it started to look like Clark Kent and Lois Lane all over again. Her Ex didn't like that at all. The ex threatened Christopher Dennis a few times and promised he would get him in the end.
Now let me say that if Christopher had been in great standing with the city and with no bad habits, then I know for a fact, the investigation that went into his death would have been a lot more thorough. But being a homeless drug addict that he had become, it wasnt even near thorough. They treated him like any other homeless drug addict and didn't really care about what really happened. If he would have been in good status, the Murderer would have been caught.
That's right it wasn't an accident, it was Murder. How does a man standing six foot four, get trapped in a Clothes Bin of only maybe 6 ft? How does a man of Christopher's strength get held down by clothing? How does a pile of clothes make impressions on the back of Christopher's head, that caused slight bruising, so found by the Coroner?
I almost know for a fact, that the ex-boyfriend, followed Christopher to the clothes bin, as Christopher was trying to get something warm to wear and he grabbed Christopher by the feet and held his head down, by the back of the head, until he suffocated. And then he threw a bunch of clothes on Chris to make it look like it was an accident. Believe me when I say, it was not an accident but a Murder. Christopher Dennis was Murdered he didn't die a tragic accident, like the lazy authorities are trying to BS the public into believing because he was just a homeless drug addict and not the great Superman of Hollywood Boulevard he used to be. I almost guarantee that her ex-boyfriend is the one that became the demise of Hollywood's Man of Steel.
I have tried to convince the authorities, the DA, Christopher's fans and many others to reinvestigate Christopher's tragic end, but most of the answers were he isn't the Great Hollywood Superman that he used to be. He was just a homeless drug addict, which I feel is beside the point. Murder is Murder and drug addiction has happened to some of the greatest. RIP My Great Friend because I know the TRUTH and in the End the Batman🦇and Karma🔥are going to pay⚡⚡back that ex-boyfriend, according to his own Works. 👎💀👎

Sam's Tons of different places. There used to be a shop just a block or two West of Beverly and Fairfax that sold used movie props and wardrobe. Not sure if it's still there, a lot of those kinds of shops closed down after the Plandemic.

In the early 2000's I went to an audition in L.A. across the street from a Catholic school. I had met Chris about a year before when he was Superman on Hollywood Boulevard but was surprised to see him there auditioning for the same role. Neither of us got the part but I did walk away with a great Chris Dennis story. At one point the kids in the schoolyard accidentally kicked the soccer ball over the fence. It bounced across the street and in our Direction. I guess it was just normal for Chris to always go to auditions dressed as Clark Kent, it was sort of his thing. Anyhow, he grabs the soccer ball, adjusts his glasses the same way Christopher Reeve did, and then he put his foot in that ball and launched the thing halfway across their field. A bunch of the kids laughed and said thank you but then one kid said "Hey, that guy kind of looks like Superman." Chris looks both ways, pretending to check for people looking, then he parts his shirt and tie and shows them the "S". Every kid had heard that first one and was watching. They went nuts. I will never forget that. He may not have gotten a paycheck but he made a bunch of kids really happy

@Liquidbraino Saw your comment on The Guardian's video as well. Your so lucky to have sparked up with a legend like him.. Can't believe I JUST learned about him and he's passed... Tragedy. He deserved to live in comfort before he passed. Especially with how popular he had become

Hey Pal

This really makes me smile.
