This was one of my favorite songs growing up (it was released when I was 10 years old and it was on the radio constantly....made it to #2 on the charts.) I had never seen the Dovells performing it before seeing this video today. I loved the group but found the juxtaposition of those staid (stuffy?) people all dressed up seated quietly at their tables and hardly moving rather hilarious! What a waste of good music when they could all have spontaneously jumped up and started doing "The Stomp"!

One of my childhood favorites as well, but it was released 15 years before I was born (I was raised on my mom's sizable collection of '45s). I still have the Cameo Parkway '45. I didn't realize until a few years ago that Len was the lead singer of the Dovells, I just knew him from another of my '45s; 1-2-3.

A Big Thank You goes out to Your Hip Mother Who Knew Her Tunes.
"1 2 3" was Very Popular here in Toronto Canada ("Chum Chart"). Canada's "Billboard".
Also The Dovells had another few hits....like "Do The Contenental" ..."Hully Gully Baby"...which were much slower than the danceable "Bristol Stomp"....however if you really wanted to dance yourself dizzy...try their jumpiest tune..."You Can't Sit Down". I try it a karaoke, it's a lot of fun.
Also....after Len's 123...he also had a minor hit up here with "Like A Baby"....which is Good....and also "Somewhere".

My brother had the Dovell's album featuring "The Bristol Stomp." He had looked for it for years. He was 10 when the... Stomp was a major hit. I thought the album was really good. I liked, "No, No, No" and "Mopeity -Mope" among others. Unfortunately, I dropped it, and cracked the opening grooves. He was understandably furious. Years later, remembering the great album, I looked for it when I was into record collecting. I found it; and the irony is that the one I got was cracked! I found another copy awhile later, and it was a very good copy. It was exciting for me. Also, my brothers also bought "1, 2, 3" and "Like A Baby". (1965, if I'm correct). I'm really thankful for so much music available today. It's one of the great loves of my life.

I grew up with this song. It was especially popular where I lived, in neighboring Levittown, PA. The choreography in this video is hilarious where the singers dance away from the mike as they're singing!

When I was in the Air Force in the ‘70s, one of the guys in our unit named Bristol beat the crap out of a loudmouth a-hole in the barracks dayroom when he wouldn’t shut up about the Notre Dame football game on TV. That incident was forever known as the Bristol Stomp, and we all laughed like hyenas whenever that song came on the oldies station. Ah, the memories…

I once created a fictitious pro football league playing in towns around suburban Philadelphia. One of those teams was the Bristol Stomp, named for the song. The logo was a giant foot smashing a football. (Another team was the Conshohocken Zap, a black helmet with a big lightning bolt.)
