Actually Pirates of the carribbean has not been composed by Hans Zimmer, he was just the producer. The actual composer is Klaus Badelt, and well... he's German, too :D And Hans Zimmer did a lot of other iconic soundtracks like Interstellar, Dune or Inception.

Well - the story behind this song is way more dramatic as most people know.

You know, the max-Texas-Cheese-Music research has a long and vile history, always on the search for pushing the boundaries.
When does Texas-Cheese-Music go super-critical?
It's a bit like the 'Tickling the Dragons Tail' research done with nuclear cores but with way more music sounding like chewing gum.

Some - like Texas Lightning succeeded in getting nearest to the critical threshold while staying sub-critical.
Others were not so lucky. It was a desaster I tell you. Carnage of biblical proportions.

Can you even begin to imagine how horrifying the sight is, when a Western band goes super-critical and all the Texas-Cheese annihilates in a blast of terrible glory?
Oh the poor widows and orphans, is all I can say. And that naturally it was closed-casket funerals....

@Cordelia Wagner Yeah Schlager and Deutschrap are really bad, but this isn't the only type of music. For example rock and metal from german artists can be good (example Powerwolf)
And there was a time in the 90's and early 2000's where there where a lot of good punk/punk rock in German
And the medieval style music can be really good too or something like a mix between rock and medieval (example: Haggard)

What do you mean "Nooo" ahahaha do you know Germany is one of the biggest music industries in the world besides the U.S. and Japan? It's historically because the best tech for sound recording came from germany. Like the Neumann microphones. The Beatles startet here and Elvis Presley recorded here. The Beatles even did freestyles in broken German which became poplular songs in their english version and Elvis sung multiple songs in German even in a movie. These artists are not german but it shows the standing the german music industry and Studios have till this day. Yes Alphaville, Bonny M, Lou Bega and the Scorpions are German artists as Well as Texas Lightning and Boss Hoss who do american country music because germans loved that stuff, you know because of America was idealized ever since the end of WWII.

"Wind of change" was supposed to characterize the change that was happening in the Soviet Union durring the late 80s. But since the Berlin Wall came down durring that time and Germany was united soon after, it's seen as an "anthem of German unification". Up to this day "Wind of Change" is still the best selling single produced by german artists. Also: The scorpions are from Hanover, were I was born. My father made sure, I know all this stuff, since I was a child xD

Many people in the US have german ancestors. There are cities in villages were most people still speak german, have german names. And a Hans Zimmer could be from there.

French, too, like "Born To Be Alive" (Patrick Hernandez), or Ottawan, among others. Also in the 1990s, house music or dance music, like Snap!, for instance, was German. A lot of techno as well. And Krautrock, of course, bands like Kraftwerk, Can, Neu!, Brainticket, Tangerine Dream and many more...

Also ein bischen Kohle wird rübergekommen noch sein und im Hintergrund noch zu tun hatte, im Musikgeschäft. Der Trommler verstarb ja früh und verarmt und mit zuviel Alkohol.
Frl. Menke, mit: Hohe Berge war noch ein Titel, aber habe die Namen eh alle vergessen. es waren ja echt nicht Wenige, da hat sich ne eigene Kultur entwickelt oder Subkultur?

The obvious reason is that English is the world language and tons of artists from all over the world sing in that language. While there does exist genres like Hip Hop and Schlager and Pop that are in German, genres like EDM usually have English lyrics even though the artists are German. But it shouldn't matter because good music is good and bad music is bad.

@noisykestrel bezog sich wohl auf seine Mogelpackungen, indem er in einigen von ihm produzierten Bands Gruppenmitglieder auftreten ließ, die nur für die Optik und den Tanz zuständig waren, aber keinen einzigen Ton rausbrachten.
Man könnte Farian ja vlt. zugestehen, dass das alles noch vor Autotune produziert wurde, denn heute braucht kein Sänger mehr singen zu können.

His songs were entertaining, and he did millions of German students (7th grade or so) a favor by using simple English lyrics telling a story teachers could use: Rivers of Babylon, El Lute, and even Ma Baker and Rasputin. There must be a couple more. And who cares about the band singing playback? It was all about the costumes they wore.

Interestin thing about Wind of Change by the Scorpions. It was written because of the Berlin Wall Fall, but they did not get it done in that your, but it was released later in 1991 when germany was officialy reunited.

@James Bray - i have a OOOOLD goodie for you. German as i am. Its from "Hannes Wader" the Song is called: "KOKAIN". Its a 70s song i think. (guitar and vocal). Heard it as a kid. Never saw a translation to it - so if you have a german guy on your side to transalte it to you... Hes somekind a oldschool psychadelic hippie and made a career in the music industry. Song is not about chocolate ^^ . So translation is important cause sarcasm and cynism involved. I dont know, i think hes dead now, but he lived the rest of his live in the US. Some of the songs chosen in the OG video are... debatable. Like... why this mediocre modern hip hop and house stuff? We had much bigger Hip-Hop bangers that even were quoted by the Bloodhound Gang (Deichkind - Bon Voyage). Same with 90s EDM. Also, some classics are missing like Snap, Haddaway, Marusha. Otherwise, banger video, as always. 😁

omg, you reminded me of something... another title with a french name, Deja Vu. The band was called Spliff (formerly the backup of Nina Hagen). You should relly hear the intro, it is an absolute blast. Metal meets Krautrock meets Schlager meets ballad, all in one go, it is really hard to describe.

Edit: They made an album in english, too. The Spliff Radio Show. Including a DJ who is talking in between the takes.

All those songs from Germany and you missed one of the biggest one hit wonder of the 80's... Nena's hit 99 luft balloons. It was sung in german and was a huge hit. Later the did it in english and that version bombed.

You can actually see that Scorpions are German by the title.
If they were U.S. citizens they would have called the song, "Here I Am," but that would have been considered arrogant at the time in Germany, so it's "Rock You Like A Hurricane"

Ok, Germans had a hand in all of those. Some artists have a double citizenship, and Boney M, for example just had a German song writer. The performing artists are caribean.
The Scorpions are kind of famously German.
Boss Hoss, btw, are always over the top and the whole concept of the band is self-irony - while being pretty good musicians.
