Wow - I expected this to be vaguely reminiscent of Victor Borge's
hilarious stand-up comedian / virtuoso piano solos.:
that I first heard, many years ago, when I was a little kid.
No such thing though, beyond the gold standard musical qualities.
This set of variations proved to be incredibly educational
(maybe on a par with Leonard Bernstein's erudite Lectures)
while being hugely entertaining, and informative:
in the sense that the overlaid textual commentary taught me more than I ever rationalised before;
about exactly why these selected composers were (and still are) so great and immediately recognisable.
The superb performance was a privilege to listen to, making me smile and even laugh at times,
when it wasn't really a laughing matter, and brought ecstatic tears of joy to my eyes,
when there was no sadness to cry about, other than my own long lost opportunities
to achieve similar standards of excellence.
I am left in awe, and gratitude for the posting of this amazing video.

Speechless...I wonder how many people truly know the amount of talent, skill, and most importantly knowledge and understanding of various styles that went into creating and performing these arrangements. In all the time on youtube, I have NEVER seen anyone come close to THIS level when it comes to interpreting classical music styles. This is now one of my all-time favorite videos on youtube!

Appreciate this creative piano cover of the melody "Happy birthday to you" as if in Rachmaninov style! https://youtu.be/w_YW6NrOKaY It is not a completely accurate stylization, as in the case of my covers in the late Scriabin style, since the texture here is simpler than it would have been in Rachmaninov's (without sub-voices and virtuosic figurations). But still, the sensations from listening to it are sufficiently "Rachmanistic": the harmonies characteristic of him sound here, and a long melodic line is also extended. It is like a big wave - it originates, expands, reaches the top and then gradually calms down, ending with a cathartic chord somewhere in the depths - as if the exhalation dissipates after a deep breath...

And also I wouldn't be Rachmaninov at all)) if I didn't use here his favorite motif of the medieval sequence Dies irae, (Gregorian chant "Doomsday"): at a certain moment, this menacing motif in the bass simultaneously connects with the theme "Happy birthday" in the upper voice (will you find-hear this place?))
Considering that Rachmaninov is the creator of some of the darkest works (most of his large compositions somehow relate to the funeral, sabbath and apocalyptic figurative sphere), there is some irony in the fact that the most "non-April-1st" composer, born on March 20 according to the old Julian calendar, with the transition to a new calendar in 1918 in Russia is now considered born on April 1st - on the day that is now associated with the "day of laughter" and jokes.
I think that Sergei Vasilyevich would just appreciate this kind of black humor with the use of the "theme of the Apocalypse" in congratulating him. He could have joked:
"Well, the birthday boy has become closer to the End" ))

Romantic actually has a lot of baroque music theory. But again you wouldn’t really know unless your hearing is on point (which is not my case), or you studied how the harmony of all common scales, substitutions and modes work plus a little bit of music theory to understand the context

This is by far the best " _ in different classical styles" video I've seen. I've noticed many others rely on just implementing sections of those composer's existing songs (every "Beethoven style" song has für Elise excerpts 😒) whereas you break down every composer's style into core elements and you weave it into something truely unique and sounds like an original interpretation or piece that every composer would hypothetically write. My favourite part is that you even included labels for us too follow along as you play. Well done, subbed 💥💥🙏🙏

Seriously, as a kid I listened to most of these composers a lot, and to a lot of video game tracks that clearly adopted heavily from classical and jazz and it’s wonderful to finally be an adult and recognize what modern composers clearly draw from to create specific moods. All of these are so unique!

Using specific means, first of all harmony (as well as texture and tempo), I can "scriabe" any piece, melody or motive accordingly, without changing at all or almost without changing the notes of the melodic line of the original.
And despite the fact that in this case I didn't even change a single note of the melody of the original holiday song "Happy birthday to you" https://youtu.be/nEOSPz9gB9s
, in the end it sounds completely different: now it's not a "home holiday", but the image of a nervous-impetuous strong-willed flame characteristic of Scriabin!

Also I "enchanted" the famous Christmas song "Jingle bells" https://youtu.be/mz5lSLvuUSc into a figurative sphere characteristic of Scriabin: now it is the most refined cosmic longing, gradually ecstatically excited, and then melting away...

Now I don't usually enjoy Happy Birthday much at all since I don't like the melody, but this was quite fun, with each part being both very recognizable and musical. I really appreciate the annotations of features. Many are obvious, but there are also some characteristics that can be hard to define as a listener, even though you recognize them as part of a style.

YESS... that's one of my pet peeves 🙄🙄 and not only did this pianist replicate each composer with brilliant skill and depth, but they broke it down for the viewers to perfectly follow too.

Hey, I just got finished watching this. And as someone who has recently gotten more into classical music, I've got to say this is easily one of the most impressive things I've ever seen on Youtube, or anything musical in general. If I had a somewhat general understanding of the composers you played in the style of prior to watching this, I have a deeper appreciation, of these composers and their unique sounds and qualities. I was very surprised by the depth and command you had of not only your interpretations of the composers, but your piano playing. That's some of the highest levels of virtuosity I've ever seen or heard. Genius is truly an understatement. There aren't enough adjectives and superlatives to describe your musicality, I'm seriously at a loss for words. Of the classical composers, my favorites thus far are Bach and Chopin.

My favorites that you did were: Beethoven, Schoenberg (the picnic and rain analogy was very creative, comedic and a perfect metaphor.) Liszt became someone I want to get into more because of your interpretation and playing of his music. Satie's was extremely underrated. It sounded very brooding, and classically deep, very rich and dramatic. I think he and Debussy are kind of similar, but contrasting, like the difference between night and day. And Beethoven, Liszt and Rachmaninoff all share the same kind of quintessential classical "madness," of rainstorms and tempest crashing waves with the bombardments of striking piano notes.

World class piano playing, you're seriously amazing, I'm deeply impressed and can't compliment you enough. You're a gift to piano. Thank you.

This young lady truly understands the "core" of every composer performed on this video. She is absolutely brilliant, and I hope to hear more from her in the future. Many people who try doing this just touch the tip of the iceberg, but Ms. Sol delves into the soul of the composers. Not only is she incredibly talented, but her technical skills are flawless. She reminds me of Hiromi!

I love & enormously benefit from ur vids. As a Math teacher, I admire u 4 ur in-depth analysis & artistry. I wish you'd teach my daughter who's left classical music (hopefully only temporarily) to compose 4 & perform in a NJ Jazz band. I literally watch hundreds of Youtube-Videos of all kinds per month and also happen to listen to classical music - and this Video to me is one of the absolutely best videos I‘ve ever seen. Mindblowing how sophisticated and accurate these arrangements are.. Im genuinely impressed (which doesn‘t happen that often these days)

I know it’s still happy birthday but during the Debussy one, I couldn’t help but get completely hooked on the sound that was being created, holy shit that was one of the most beautiful pieces I’ve ever heard, AND ITS DERIVED FROM HAPPY BIRTHDAY lol

Okay but nobody has commented on how good the editing is? Like the way the typography changes size and angles is super nice and fits the music really well and the way it’s done is entertaining, telling a story for any person with any knowledge of music

Keep posting videos, you are great. I wish I could have you as teacher. I started learning piano at 30 years of age having little basics that I got from taking classes when I was kid. I sometimes pratice more than 6 hours if I don't work but having someone like you as teacher would help a lot. If I ever become rich I will buy you a Steinway just for posting helpful techincs videos and exercises.

Remarkable...I've heard lots of clever pianists improvise "in the style of" this or that great composer, but the likeness is to a great extent superficial. This is far more complex and rich in both scholarship and imagination. A joy to listen to!
