Ved Buens Ende is a metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1994 by the dru… Read Full Bio ↴Ved Buens Ende is a metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1994 by the drummer Carl-Michael Eide and guitarist Vicotnik, who were then joined by bassist Skoll. The band was unique by their mixture of many unusual musical elements for metal, such as atonality and dissonance, a very prominent bass sound as well as Eide's crooning and Vicotnik's characteristic shrieks.

The band split up in 1997, after releasing only one full-length album, Written in Waters, with the British label Misanthropy Records. Ved Buens Ende rehearsed for a new album in 2006 (never released), but split up again in 2007, because, as stated in their Myspace, Vikotnic and Czral realized they had grown apart musically. Much of the material intended for this release ultimately appeared on Virus' The Black Flux.

Carl-Michael Eide also founded Virus in 2000. This band is considered a continuation of his previous work with Buens Ende because of similar musical elements and an avant-garde form of unusual experimentation, although the band has its own characteristic sound.

The band reunited a second time in 2019.

But ... this sounds like a " The Black Flux " era rehearsal ... glad they didn´t release anything , Virus have always been the rightful VBE heirs IMHO .

@Saraiva Toledo Of course we don't underestimate Skoll he is perfect but he just don't take place so much in VBE's songs structure writing. Yes many believes that fast parts are totally Vicotnik's but i think that's a not real based conclusion and it's based only because in Dodheimsgard Vicotnik's style is more fast with tremolo, blasts etc.. Anyway Road is the only song in Carheart written by both of them and that shows how great is when they collaborate

@Saraiva Toledo Road is so great exactly because it's crafted by both of them. To me its like Vicotnik's touch in disharmonic riffing is kinda more moody/atmospheric and melancholic still yet comlpex. Czral's vision is more tricky, nervous, groovy and bizarre.

@chris Mal " Listening to " Carheart " , and it so happens to be " Road " song , crafted by Vicotnik /Czral ... great example of how people such as myself have this " Virus is VBE ´s natural evolution " mentality .
I understand and respect your point though . I suspect most the Black Metal vibe which makes VBE so special is almost all Vicotnik ( may be underestimating both Skol and Eide ) . Man... " Road " is just ... \m/

No no no...no way... Virus is perfect but it's 50% of Ved Buens Ende...if there isn't Vicotnik too it's not VBE...some people who says that VBE is almost totally Czral's ideas or that Vicotnik's contribution is only fast black metal parts are TOTALLY WRONG. Both have said it clearly in many interviews..Just listen to Dodheimsgard's VBE parts in all of their albums since Vicotnik hold the whole songwriting... listen to VBE parts of Dodheimsgard's "A Umbra Omega" and realize clearly what's Vicotnik's contribution and touch to VBE..

Fleurity was an incredible band from the get go . " Min Tid Skal Komme " was already an incredible psychedelic album . At the time I was a stoner and that was like my Black Metal version of " Focus " or " Spheres " ( that album is trippy af , most people saw it as obtuse and complex in a contrived way ... like f*** , that was a f***ing Saga , not an album "haha ) .
What they would shortly morph into was not only excellent but , yes , indeed comparable to VBE in wavelength .

If anything was close to VBE in avant-garde terms, I Left the Planet and "Last Minute Lies" by Fleurety are closer imo, just not black metal

@Saraiva Toledo the thing with Ved Buens Ende is it was so different and off-putting for its time, it's still very avant-garde to this day... people like to compare Virus but I really never bought into that, although CME is another super talented musician... as far as uniqueness from Vicotnik, the musicianship from A Umbra Omega is somewhat comparable to Ved Buens Ende, as well as the vocals in regards to being weird.. although I like Czral's on VBE way more than Aldrahn on DHG

Same opinion . I bet Vicotnik wasn´t into compromising this much . Dodheimsgard has got nothing to do with both Virus or VBE . Virus being the logical evolution of VBE .
