The group was fronted by a female singer (Sarah Shannon) (original lead singer Bridget Cross left to join Unrest) and featured both female and male vocals, sometimes simultaneously. In the group's recordings, Shannon's voice had a light, airy quality with a slight vibrato.
The band took its name from a Primal Scream B-side.
Velocity Girl released three recordings on the Sub Pop label, Copacetic (1993), Simpatico (1994), and Gilded Stars and Zealous Hearts (1996). Velocity Girl disbanded in October 1996 (although a reunion show was played in 2002 to benefit original singer Cross). Sarah Shannon, Kelly Riles and Jim Spellman reunited in a short-lived project called Starry Eyes which released a single EP Starry Eyes (1997, Radiopaque).
Guitarist Archie Moore went on to form The Heartworms and The Saturday People.
Sarah Shannon currently (2002-2007) records as a solo artist.

Velocity Girl Lyrics

My love pretty little sister
I will give my body to her
I'm walking around this crazy town
I fond the same old faces
This crowd brings me down
And if you think that's just wait
About a few more hours
I've been walking around
Through this crazy town
Let's just move up on
To my overconscience
Money only appeals to lonely dudes
The lyrics to Velocity Girl's song "Crazy Town" seem to be about a person who is contemplating ending their attraction towards someone. They mention feeling like they might be "over" their "love pretty little sister," which could suggest that the subject is in a quasi-incestuous relationship or that they are simply referring to someone they were very close to. The line, "I will give my body to her," also adds to the confusion about what the singer's relationship with this person may be.
The song then shifts focus to the singer walking around town and feeling weighed down by the crowds and familiar faces. They mention that they don't want to be lazy, suggesting that they want to take action or do something proactive instead of simply wallowing in their emotions. The line, "Let's just move up on to my overconscience," seems to imply that the singer wants to get out of their own head and into action.
Finally, the last line is a curious observation about money only appealing to lonely dudes. This could be interpreted in numerous ways, but it likely adds to the overall sense of disillusionment and frustration that permeates the song.

I will say that I might be over
I admit that I might have moved on
My love pretty little sister
I view my former love as a sibling
I will give my body to her
I will offer comfort to my former love
I'm walking around this crazy town
I am aimlessly wandering through an unpredictable city
I found the same old faces
I am surrounded by familiar but uninspiring people
This crowd brings me down
Being around these people makes me feel sad
And if you think that's just wait
It will get worse if you let it
About a few more hours
It won't take long for things to deteriorate
In my book why be lazy
I believe in taking action rather than procrastination
I've been walking around
I have been wandering aimlessly
Through this crazy town
In this unpredictable city
Let's just move up on
Let's continue moving forward
To my overconscience
To higher awareness and self-reflection
Money only appeals to lonely dudes
Material wealth only satisfies temporary needs and those who feel alone

This is one of those songs that makes me wish I appreciated that time more (the early 90s). I thought it would last forever.

They're a million years away from where we are now.

Ah Velocity Girl. So much talent, so much promise but not so much success in the mainstream, which is fine by me. Velocity Girl was like my favorite secret and always a big hit when I played their singles at gatherings and parties. Good stuff then and even better stuff now!

I love the lo-fi and how the tracking is adjusted at the start of the song. It just gives it even more of an all around wall of sound vibe.

It also serves as a reminder of a long-ago life before boundless access to online streaming/social media platforms (or even DVDs), when the only way to see our favourite Indie artists (if we couldn't see them in person) was to catch 120 Minutes, Alternative Nation, etc. in real time, or capture the broadcasts to those bricks of plastic known as VHS tapes. I feel increasingly archaic, but VG always takes me back to a happier time as a young adult, when the world was still full of wonder. The future just doesn't seem so exciting as it once did.

this band is like if my bloody valentine never did drugs and didn't set their alarm for 4 am to wake up and do the vocals

One more thing..."Copacetic" is perhaps one of the strongest fuzzed-out, sub-pop release during the 90's. N'est-ce pas?

Hey I lived in Oxon Hill and my experience was nowhere near as beautiful as this! Seriously though Velocity Girl is one of the best things to happen to me musically and I wish they were still around. I only caught one show at Sapphire Supper Club in Orlando FL in 1996 right before they broke up.

The Sapphire was sooooooo dope! I saw Frank Black and DJ Spooky there!
