As a young man, I didn't have the money to go see them in concert, much less buy their CD. Now that I am older and can afford to see them, they are no longer a band. It's a shame drugs screwed up this fantastic band.
GNR and VR both had sounds that no other band had. Pure rock.

What was really underrated about VR was that second album. Within a couple of years after Contraband was massive people took them for granted and didn't bother with Libertad because it was different but it was so much better for it.

Personally, I miss the heavy, serious, and meaningful introspections on life found in Contraband, since Libertad has almost none of that, but I'm gradually beginning to appreciate this CD more and more. Libertad may not have the sharp writing or depth of their debut album, but its got some nicely groovy lines, its more accessible, and its definately alot more fun. Two GREAT albums, one band that lasted way too short for me.. Velvet Revolver > GnR any day!

I like both bands. I don't see how it matters much for which one is better, it all comes down to personal preference. I, for one, LOVE G'n'R, but there's only so much of Axl's voice I can listen to sometimes. overall, he is great though. Both these bands are!

Sure there will always be hits and misses but back then there was something for everyone. Today there's almost nothing for anyone lol.

wow such a talented band hence the title supergroup. i found the idea of axl eating crow kind of fitting...afterall his ego was his weakness. there truly is no comparason with scott or axl, they each are unique and talented. i must say this though, I think its awesome scott wears his socks on his feet and not in his pants :-)

And I'll give you three in return: Maneki Neko (my favorite is "cats sleeping on clouds") If you don't know about Steve Roach perhaps you should look into him since he is pretty much the father of Ambient music. Lastly, a minimalist artist, Rena Jones (Indra's Web is the best one) should be recognized for her awesome work. Maybe those are mainstream artists in Brazil but there aren't even close to mainstream here. Muse and The Black Keys are, but that's it. Mainstream = on the radio often.

Not necessarily underground. There are a lot of nice bands that are 'mainstream'. But they're not on the radios as much as they should. Try: Eguana; MopTop; Blueneck; The Black Keys; Muse; Angra; Senmuth; Eluveitie; Korpiklaani Those are the ones that came to my mind. They're from many styles.

Slash's Snakepit the first WAS stuff Slash composed while in GnR. It was supposed to be for their next record or tour or something, but Axl said nah he didnt like it. So Slash used it in Snakepit, at least the first Snakepit album. As for the new record, it's something he could have composed in GnR if GnR was still around today and had evolved to this point. It's just pure Slash, only grown over time bigger, harder, deeper sound, more mature, and def more RnFnR even than in GnR.

Actually, Axl did like some song in it. Loved, even. Due to the slow progress they were making, Slash just thought ''fuck it'' and did a solo record with the songs. Sure, if the songs had been made for GnR, they wouldn't probably be, should I say, as ''heavy'' as they did become, but deep inside it's all the same stuff that would've probably been on next records. I could imagine Axl singing to ''Beggars and Hangers-on'' or ''Monkey Chow''. It ain't that different.

slash and nikki sixx once were thinkin' about starting a side project right before VR got together, Nikki wanted Josh Todd from Buckcherry to be the singer. if that band actually got together, I think it would have made a huge impact, alot bigger than both VR and Sixx A.M.

@ptij0404 The best way to play is to sound like yourself. Slash might not be as good as 100 others according to you but Slash sounds like Slash and theres no one else that sounds like him. IMO Keith Richards is one of the best ever. He may not be the most technical player but no one sounds like him.

MopTop sounds like a lot punk bands such as The Strokes. Eguana is ambient and the polar opposite of mainstream. A good artist, but the very definition of underground. Blueneck = Coldplay. The Black Keys = Smashmouth. Muse = 80's with modern synthesizers. Angra=Yngvie Malmstein + Dream Theater Senmuth is a little different but an amalgamation of cliche metal/ambience. Eluveitie = Swiss Metal + Celtic Woman Korpiklaani=Fin Folk Metal It's all underground except Muse and Black Keys.
