Often abbreviated to "Vsnares" – Funk's distinctive style reflects unconventional time signatures and extremely rapid and erratic rhythms. Unpredictable and stimulating, the effect is intense.
Funk's first release was "Greg Hates Car Culture", an EP for the History Of The Future Label, followed by "Salt" for Zhark and "Fuck Canada // Fuck America" with Stunt Rock for CLFST. When Mike Paradinas heard "Greg Hates Car Culture", he immediately signed Funk for Planet µ. Prior to this, he self-released material on cassette tape as early as 1992.
The first Venetian Snares LP on Planet µ "Making Orange Things" (a co-production with Speedranch), dropped in early 2001; following in short order were 5 more releases, all released before the end of 2002. Funk continued recording for a variety of labels, including Hymen, Addict, and Sublight Records, and has also recorded as snares, Snares Man!, BeeSnares, Ventriloquist Snakes, Puff, Last Step and Senetian Vnares.
Második galamb
Venetian Snares Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It doesn't know that it's wild
It doesn't know that it scares me
Why am I frightened so easily?
Pigeon, why can you scare me?
Am I not a part of your life anymore?
Am I not welcome anymore?
Am I not part of your life?
The song "Második galamb" by Venetian Snares is a haunting and introspective exploration of the natural world and our place within it. The lyrics, "It's just a pigeon, looking for its nest / It doesn't know that it's wild / It doesn't know that it scares me" capture the tension between our desire to connect with the natural world and our fear of it. The singer is afraid of the pigeon, not because it is dangerous, but because it represents the unknown and the uncontrolled.
The lyrics continue with the singer questioning their own fear and their place in the world. "Why am I frightened so easily? / Pigeon, why can you scare me? / Am I not a part of your life anymore? / Am I not welcome anymore?" The pigeon becomes a symbol for the loss of connection between humans and the natural world. The singer's fear is not just of the pigeon, but of their own disconnection from the natural world.
Overall, "Második galamb" is a powerful meditation on our relationship with nature and our own fears and anxieties. The pigeon represents not just a bird, but the wider natural world that we are both a part of and separate from.
