Let me go
Venice Maki Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Atleast you were the kid that everyone played with.
Cause I was the kid no one cared to know my name
I'd reach out to touch you, afraid someone would see me
These broken memories is all that's left in my mind

The least I can say, I toke the chance
The least I can say, I'm only human
The least I can say, It's made me who I am
But you just let me go

Now I'm a little older, my dream is all that I need
I've face reality it got me drownin in my room
I've locked the doors behind me, i threw away the keys
I don't know what to do, defeat the demons in my dream

The least I can say, I toke the chance
The least I can say, I'm only human
The least I can say, It's made me who I am
But you just let me go

Someone mistaken me for you, now I know what it feels like
Someone mistaken me for you, what a shame

The least I can say, I toke the chance
The least I can say, I'm only human

The least I can say, It's made me who I am
But you just let me go

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Venice Maki's song Let Me Go explore the feeling of rejection, isolation and broken dreams. The song seems to be narrated from the perspective of someone who has been overlooked and neglected throughout their lives. The opening lines "At least you were the kid that everyone played with, Cause I was the kid no one cared to know my name" paint a picture of a lonely, isolated individual who is struggling with feelings of exclusion and invisibility. They highlight the contrast between themselves and the person they are addressing, who seems to have had an easier and more fulfilling childhood.

The chorus of the song which is repeated throughout the track, suggests that despite the isolation and emotional pain, the singer has faced, they are still trying to make the best of what life has handed to them. Lines like "The least I can say, I took the chance, The least I can say, I'm only human, The least I can say, It's made me who I am, But you just let me go" emphasize that while the singer has tried to improve their life in the face of adversity, the person who is being addressed has not acknowledged their struggles or offered any support. Instead, they have "let them go."

The line "Someone mistaken me for you, now I know what it feels like, Someone mistaken me for you, what a shame" is a poignant one, suggesting that the singer is finally beginning to understand the privileges that the person they are addressing has enjoyed, and that they themselves have been denied. The use of the word "shame" at the end could be interpreted as a call to action, urging the person who has overlooked them to acknowledge their worth and to help them overcome their struggles.
