Breaking Out
Ventura Lights Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Convinience, empty hole
Get riddance, self contempt
How long can i pretend?
For the breaking out is losing sight
I felt so much wrong in what i thought was right
The could have been can become the once was
Open up.
Fall forward to worlds unknown
Leave burdens all to their own
Slow down let the tether go
It's your choice, it's now or no
For the breaking out is losing sight
I felt so much wrong in what i thought was right
The could have been can become the once was
And all of the sewn in your eyes open up
Open up.
Go!
For the breaking out is losing sight
I felt so much wrong in what i thought was right
The could have been can become the once was
And all of the sewn in your eyes open up
The song by Ventura Lights called 'Breaking Out' talks about the need to break out of a destructive and monotonous routine that is consuming the singer. The lyrics are an invitation to abandon the familiarity that, although comfortable, is also ill and broke. The convenience of a mundane life is portrayed as an empty hole, and self-contempt is pushing the singer to break free. However, the breaking out is seen as losing sight, as the comfort of familiarity is tempting yet again. The singer is in a dilemma of sorts, where embracing change is necessary but also daunting. The could-have-beens can become the once-was, and the final two lines of the song 'And all of the sewn in your eyes open up/ Open up' is an invitation to see what's beyond the familiar and to embrace that which is coming your way.
