Venus Hum released their self titled debut through Mono-Fi Music on April 24th of 2001.
Their first Major Label full-length album, Big Beautiful Sky, was released April 1st, 2003 through MCA. That same year, Venus Hum toured with and opened for Blue Man Group; Annette sang vocals on "I Feel Love".
In 2004 Venus Hum released their Songs for Superheros EP, a collaboration with television producer J J Abrahms. However, Annette had developed immensely painful vocal nodes and had to see a speech pathologist to relearn her singing ability.

Wordless May
Venus Hum Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sing a song to me
She stands as tall as trees these days
The words of wordless may
Dear Jesus make me simple
Strong as trees to sway
Give me arms wide open, with your beautiful way
If there were fields, as pretty as you
I'd want to kiss them too
If there were fields, as pretty as you
I'd want to kiss them too
If there were eyes, as pretty and blue
I'd want to swim them too
If there were skys, as pretty and blue
I'd want to kiss them too
The words of wordless may
Sing a song to me
She stands as tall as trees these days
The words of wordless may
Dear Jesus make me simple
Strong as trees to sway
Give me arms wide open, with your beautiful way
Just like wordless may
If there were fields, as pretty as you
I'd want to kiss them too
If there were skys, as pretty as you
I'd want to kiss them too

The words of wordless may
Sing a song to me
She stands as tall as trees these days
The words of wordless may
Dear Jesus make me simple
Strong as trees to sway
Give me arms wide open, with your beautiful way
Just like wordless may
The lyrics to Venus Hum’s Wordless May are beautifully abstract, with words that paint surreal images that are left to interpretation. In the first verse, the singer acknowledges the power of language with the opening line, “The words of wordless may,” before describing the character of Wordless May who is tall and commanding like a tree. This may indicate that the power of Wordless May’s words are beyond just syntax and grammar, but have a force of their own that rivals nature.
The second verse appeals to a higher power with the plea, “Dear Jesus make me simple, strong as trees to sway, give me arms wide open, with your beautiful way, just like wordless May.” The singer wants to emulate Wordless May’s simplicity and strength, as well as her beautiful, open-hearted ways. The subsequent verses depict the singer’s adoration to pretty things, with the lines “If there were fields as pretty as you, I’d want to kiss them too” and “if there were skies as beautiful as you, I’d want to kiss them too.”
The song’s lyrics convey themes of admiration, humility, and the power of simplicity. It also shows how words can be beautiful and evoke emotions. The song does not impose judgment and is open to different interpretations, which is what makes it a captivating piece of art.
