Veronika Fischer began to study 1968 music at the Dresden Music College „Carl Maria von Weber“.
While studying, she performed with a variation of bands, such as the Fred-Herfter-Combo and the Stern-Combo Meissen.
1973 her first album was released with the band Panta Rhei, members of which later founded the band Karat, one of East Germany's most famous musical exports.
At the same year Veronika passed the exam for her studies as soloist for chanson and musical.
A year later she founded her own band: Veronika Fischer & Band.
Her first solo album was released 1975.
Her follow ups sold well in excess of 1.5 million(!), so that Venonika advanced to one of the most successful singers of the former East Germany
At the end of the 1970s she contributed towards two children's albums (Geschichtenlieder 1978 und Der Traumzauberbaum 1980).
1979 she gaves birth to her son, Benjamin.
1981 Veronika Fischer didn't return to East Berlin from a gig in West Berlin.
In West Berlin she released her next albums, in which process she could establish herself as an entertainer also in the West and now in the reunified Germany.

Veronika Fischer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Nur um dich zu sehn,
Denn ich gehör allein zu dir,
Berlin, Berlin.
Was dir auch geschehn,
Für mich bist du schön,
Ich bin und bleib ein Stück von dir,
Berlin, Berlin.
Du bist die dufte ganz große Stadt,
Die auch heut' in dieser Zeit,
Ein Herz noch hat.
Das Leid ist vorbei,
Du bist wieder frei,
Die ganze Welt kommt gern zu dir,
Berlin, Berlin.
Ich kann nicht anderswo,
So glücklich sein und froh,
Wie hier bei dir,
Berlin, Berlin.
Berlin, Berlin.
Man sagt von dir,
Du bist die dufte ganz große Stadt,
Schlägt auch dein Herz etwas matt,
Freude und Schmerz,
Erleben wir hier,
Hier nur bei dir.
Mein Lied von der Stadt,
Die nur Freunde hat,
Damit bedank ich mich bei dir,
Berlin, Berlin.
Ich kann nicht anderswo,
So glücklich sein und froh,
Bleib hier bei dir,
Berlin, Berlin.
These lyrics express a deep sense of attachment and love for the city of Berlin. The singer says that they would walk on foot just to see the city because they belong to Berlin alone. No matter what happens, Berlin will always be beautiful to them. Berlin is described as a city that has a heart, despite what others may say. The hurt is over, and Berlin is free again. The whole world loves to come to Berlin. The singer claims that they cannot be as happy and content anywhere else as they are in Berlin.
The repeated chorus emphasizes that Berlin is a very special city. Despite the fact that it may not be perfect, it still manages to capture the hearts of those who visit or call it home. There is a sense of devotion in these lyrics - the singer acknowledges the city's flaws but chooses to love and cherish it anyways. This song can be interpreted as a tribute to Berlin's unique character and the way it has changed over time.
