Figure It Out
VersaEmerge Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wish
I swerve
My eyes avert
My mouth somehow forgets to work
So I stare until you shout
Wondering why you can't figure me out

With a change
We'll call the names
I'm spitting out words
Hoping it works
Still I stare while they all shout
Why can't I even figure it out?

The time I'm wasting
Can't say where I've been
Catching my same old ways
Slowly spin beneath the day
Your time I'm wasting
Can't say where we've been
Cause it seems to me that
Nothing's what it's ever meant to be

With my fate
My thoughts erase
My head's a blur
The picture fades
Eyes they keep on shutting down
Can't see why you won't figure me out

The time I'm wasting
Can't say where I've been
Catching my same old ways
Slowly spin beneath the day
Your time I'm wasting
Can't say where we've been
Cause it seems to me that
Nothing's what it's ever meant to be

Why can't you figure me out?
With a twist my mind has missed you so that I forget

The time I'm wasting
Can't say where I've been
Catching my same old ways
Slowly spin beneath the day
Your time I'm wasting
Can't say where we've been
Cause it seems to me that
Nothing's what it's ever meant to be
Your time I'm wasting
Can't say where we've been

Cause it seems to me that
No one's ever who they're meant to be

Overall Meaning

"Figure It Out" by VersaEmerge is a song about the difficulties of communication and the frustrations of not being understood by someone else. The lyrics suggest that the singer has difficulty expressing themselves verbally, and as a result, feels misunderstood by those around them. The song is full of conflicting emotions, with moments of anger and confusion, as well as a sense of resignation and defeat.

The first verse hints at the singer's social anxiety, as their "mouth somehow forgets to work" and they struggle to make themselves heard. The chorus repeats the idea that the singer is not easily understood, with the phrase "Why can't you figure me out?" highlighting their feeling of being misunderstood. The second verse adds to the sense of confusion and frustration, as the singer's mind becomes jumbled and their thoughts and feelings become impossible to express.

The final repetition of the chorus includes the line "No one's ever who they're meant to be," which suggests a deeper sense of existential despair and a lack of connection with the world around them.

This band had so much potential, I wish they had at least released one more full album.

@Lol As opposed to, what, metaphorically pathetic?

Mr. Internet Man

Real shame how they got screwed over by the label.

Sierra Kay performs under BadDaughter now. She’s the lead singer

RichardBlaziken

A real shame that this band never went on to do bigger things. I think about this album often, she's a very good singer and the sound of the band is good.

Y

She sings alone now under BadDaughter. She’s amazing

@Y Hey thanks for the heads-up! I'll check it out!

RedRidinghoodK5

She's got the voice of Paramore's lead, mixed with a bit of Halestorm's lead and her own stylized twist, with a mood and slight sound like Evanescence hinted with the sound of Paramore's Monster. All in all? AMAZING. <3
