The Rock Won't Move
Vertical Church Band Lyrics

When the ground beneath my feet gives way
And I hear the sound of crashing waves
All my world is washing out to sea
I'm hidden safe in the God who never moves
Holding fast to the promise of the truth
That You are holding tighter still to me

Oh, the Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone
The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone
The Rock of our Salvation

My hope is in the promise of Your blood
My support within the raging flood
Even in the tempest, I can sing
I'm hidden safe in the God who never moves
Holding fast to the promise of Your truth
That You are holding tighter still to me

The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone
The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone
The Rock of our Salvation

Whoa, whoa
Whoa, the Rock of our Salvation

On Christ, the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
The Rock won't move, the Rock won't move
And when darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
The Rock won't move, no, the Rock won't move

On Christ, the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
The Rock won't move, no, the Rock won't move
And when darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
The Rock won't move, no, the Rock won't move

And the Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone
The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone, no

The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone
The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone, no

The Rock of our Salvation

Whoa, whoa
Whoa, the Rock of our Salvation

Whoa, whoa, the Rock of our Salvation

Lead me to the Rock (whoa, whoa)
The Rock that is higher whoa)
That is greater
The Rock of our Salvation
Lead me to the Rock (whoa, whoa)
The Rock that is Stronger (whoa)
That is Stronger
The Rock of our Salvation
The Rock that is Jesus
The Rock that is Jesus
He will never move
Though we are famous, He is faithful
Lead me to the Rock (whoa, whoa)
Lead me to the Rock (whoa)
Lead me to the Rock
The Rock of our Salvation

The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone
The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone, thank you, Lord

The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone
The Rock won't move and His word is strong
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone

The Rock of our Salvation
Whoa, whoa
Whoa, the Rock of our Salvation
Yes you are, you are the Rock

Yes, you are
Jesus

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Vertical Church Band's song "The Rock Won't Move" speak of the unwavering and unchanging nature of God. The first verse talks about the feeling of being lost and hopeless when everything around us seems to be falling apart. However, the chorus emphasizes that no matter what happens, God in His faithfulness will never move, and His love and promises to His people will always remain unbroken. The second verse encourages us to find peace and security in God during times of hardship and uncertainty, acknowledging that even in the midst of storms, we can sing and rest in His grace. The bridge further emphasizes the steadfast nature of God as the Rock of our Salvation, greater and stronger than any other foundation.

The title of the song is a play on words, as it can be interpreted in two ways. Firstly, it speaks of God as a rock, solid and unchanging. Secondly, it could also be referencing the story of the resurrection where the stone was rolled away from Jesus' tomb. The song was written by a group of songwriters including Jason Ingram, Meredith Andrews, and Andi Rozier, and was released on Vertical Church Band's album "Live Worship From Vertical Church" in 2013. It quickly gained popularity in Christian worship spaces and received a GMA Dove Award nomination for Worship Song of the Year in 2014.

If we Christians would walk in the knowledge of the immutable nature of God's character, His love for us, and the assurance of our salvation in Jesus Christ, then we would live fearless lives of love that would inspire an unbelieving world to turn to Jesus. I acknowledge my own need to walk in that faith. This song does an amazing job of illustrating this for us. Thank you Vertical Worship.

I often question my lack of walking in faith. Iโ€™ll pray, through the Holy Spirit send the understanding and courage we need.

@kevindavis6839

I sing along loudly with this amazing song, "The Rock won't move, no, the Rock won't move!" That's a wonderful Truth that all followers of Jesus can adopt as their anthem of faith. Our Firm Foundation, Christ the Solid Rock, is the only ground where we can stand that wonโ€™t move or let us down. Thatโ€™s something worth singing about.
