Never Met Her
Veruca Salt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've never met her, and I don't mind
I've seen her face a thousand times
she hides behind her hair
I wonder if her love is like mine
Face up, I'll face the day
three weeks, you flew away
I'll never blame her
I'll never let you make me hate a girl that way
touch down, I hear the score
I watched you slide out through the backdoor

I've never met her, but when I do
I'll thank her from saving me from you

Overall Meaning

The opening verse of Veruca Salt's song "Never Met Her" tells of a girl that the singer has never met before, but has seen her face many times. The girl has a tendency to hide behind her hair, indicating perhaps a shy or introverted nature. The singer wonders if this girl's love is similar to their own. The following verse reveals that the singer's love interest has left for three weeks, but they won't blame the girl in question for their absence.

The third verse states that the singer will not allow their lover to make them hate the unknown girl that they have mentioned, suggesting perhaps a jealousy issue. The last two lines of the verse are particularly revealing, as they mention the singer's lover leaving through the backdoor, implying that he left in a sneaky or deceitful manner. In the final verse, the singer states that they have not yet met the mysterious girl, but when they do, they will thank her for saving them from their shady partner.

this is a bside for one of the early singles. 'All Hail Me' I believe. I've heard it's about Alanis Morisette. Louise Post's BF left her for Alanis supossedly. I understand there was no bad feelings between the two. Alanis and Louise hugged when they finally met. A shared understanding about the guy. He dumped Alanis as well. (I may be wrong. this is what i recall reading about)
