In 1995, his tribute to Mexico's beloved Trio Los Panchos, Recordando A Los Panchos, earned him considerable acclaim and produced two major hits, "Miseria" and "No, No, Y No."
He owns and primarily lives in a huge ranch named 'Los Tres Potrillos" located between the cities of Guadalajara and Chapala Jalisco, Mexico. It was named after his three sons. It is complete with stables, 2 houses, a lake, high bred horses and a church. During Christmas time thousands of children go to this ranch where hundreds of thousands of dollars in Christmas gifts are given out.
He loves miniature horses and has bred them at his ranch, where he even has some as small as 6 inches.
In 2005, Fernández and his sons, Alejandro and Vicente Jr., made history by becoming the first Latin American singers to appear as cartoons in a video, for Vicente Sr.'s song, Al Mayor de los Fernandez (To the Oldest Fernández), dedicated to Vicente Sr.'s father.
Vicente has been married to Maria del Refugio Abarca Villaseñor since December 27, 1963. He has three sons with her: Vicente Jr, Gerardo, and Alejandro. His fans and the media refer to him as "Chente", a diminutive of his name out of affection but in interviews and events he is also addressed as Don Vicente out of respect. In Mexico he is referred to as "El Rey" (the king) and as "El Charro de Huentitán" (the Charro of Huentitan). His wife is affectionately known as Doña Cuca. Vicente, just like his son Alejandro, is notorious for being a ladies man and is often called a Don Juan. [1]
Vicente was involved in a scandal when it was made public that he had maintained a relation for ten years with Patricia Rivera, whom he met in 1977 while filming "El Arracadas". Years later she declared that her son, Pablo Rodrigo, was a product of that relation and Vicente recognized the son as his, giving him the Fernandez name. Afterwards DNA testing proved that Pablo was not his son.[2]
In 2004, while in concert in Miami's American Airlines Arena, Vicente had to pay $30,000 USD for having gone over the original scheduled time for the concert. He sang for three hours some of his all time hits as well as songs from his then new album "Se Me Hizo Tarde la Vida".[3]
Vicente has a star in Hollywood's Walk of Fame and his ceremony there was attended by over 5,000 people, breaking all previous attendance records.[4]
Vicente retired in 2016 in a massive concert in Estadio Azteca, Mexico city.
He fell from a horse in his rancho in august 2021, causing a rapid decline in his health. Vicente Fernandez, one of the greatest mexicans to ever live, passed away on December 12, 2021, from complications related to his fall.

A Mi Manera

A mi manera
The lyrics to Vicente Fernandez's song "A Mi Manera" speak about the end of life approaching and the singer waiting for it with a calm attitude. The singer reflects on the way they have lived their life, being true to themselves and living without boundaries. They declare that they have lived life their way, without conforming to societal norms or expectations. The singer also states that they never experienced a love that was truly important to them and only took what they wanted from each moment in life as they traveled and enjoyed themselves.
The lyrics convey a sense of acceptance and self-assuredness, as the singer reflects on their life without regret. The line "Now I know that I was happy" encapsulates this feeling perfectly. The singer acknowledges that they may have experienced challenges and made mistakes, but ultimately they lived according to their own rules and were true to themselves. The final lines of the song state that there is no need to pretend or remember one's past actions, as the only thing that truly matters is living life according to one's own individuality.
Interestingly, "A Mi Manera" is a cover of the popular English-language song "My Way" by Frank Sinatra. Despite the language barrier, the song has become a classic in the Spanish-speaking world and has been covered by numerous Latin American artists. Fernandez's version is considered by many to be the most popular and is often played at important gatherings such as weddings and graduations.

El final, se acerca ya
The end is coming near
Lo esperaré, serenamente
I will wait for it, calmly
Ya ves, que yo he sido así
You see, that's how I've been
Te lo diré, sinceramente
I'll tell you honestly
Viví, la inmensidad
I lived the immensity
Sin conocer, jamás fronteras
Without ever knowing boundaries
Jugué, sin descansar, y a mi manera
I played without rest, and in my own way
Jamás, viví un amor
I never really lived a love
Que para mí, fuera importante
That was important to me
Tomé, solo la flor
I only took the flower
Y lo mejor, de cada instante
And the best of every moment
Viaje, y disfruté
I traveled and enjoyed
No sé si más, que otro cualquiera
I don't know if more, than anyone else
Y si, todo esto fue, a mi manera
And if all this was, in my own way
Tal vez lloré, o tal vez reí
Maybe I cried, or maybe I laughed
Tal vez gané, o tal vez perdí
Maybe I won, or maybe I lost
Ahora sé que fui feliz
Now I know I was happy
Que si lloré, también amé
That if I cried, I also loved
I can go on, till the end, in my own way
Maybe I also doubted, when I was having the most fun
Quizá yo desprecie aquello que no comprendía
Maybe I looked down on what I didn't understand
Today I know that I was strong and faced being who I am
And thus was able to live, but in my own way
Because you'll know a man ultimately by his way of life
No hay porque hablar, ni que decir
There's no need to talk or say anything
Ni recordar, ni que fingir
No reminiscing or pretending
Puedo seguir hasta el final
I can go on till the end
A mi manera
In my own way
