The lyrics of Vincentico's song, "Se Despierta La Ciudad," describe the awakening of the city as people start to leave their homes and head to work for the day. As the sounds of sirens begin to fill the air, the fear of being robbed or victimized overtakes the people. The last lines of the first verse repeat the phrase "Niño que baila le va a robar," which translates to "the dancing boy will steal from you," emphasizing the anxiety that comes with living in a rough urban environment.
The second verse introduces the children who have taken to the streets to earn some money. These children dance, moving their bodies to the rhythm of the waves of people passing by. However, the anxiety of being robbed remains, and the slightest movement can trigger a sense of panic, as underscored in the repetitive lines "El niño se acerca mostrando su dedo, la gente se asusta y se pone a gritar" (The boy approaches, showing his finger, and the people become frightened and scream).
The song portrays the anxiety and fear that many people living in cities feel every day. The lyrics make explicit the stress and paranoia that can be a part of city life, particularly in economically disadvantaged areas. The song's underlying message appears to be a rallying cry for social change, with the expressed hope that the experience of living in the city will improve.
