She is the daughter of singer, musician, and composer Leandros Papathanasiou (also known as Leo Leandros and Mario Panas as well). In 1967, she achieved worldwide fame after securing fourth place for the country of Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "L'amour est bleu," which became a global hit. She further solidified her career by winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1972 with the song "Après Toi," once again representing Luxembourg.

On 15 October 2006, Vicky Leandros was elected town councillor of the Greek harbor town of Piraeus on the Pasok list. Her task concerned the Cultural and International development of Piraeus. She also served as Deputy Mayor of Piraeus. It was announced in June 2008 that Leandros decided to leave her position in Greek politics with immediate effect, stating that she had underestimated the workload and time needed to fulfill her political obligations and that it had become impossible to combine those duties with her singing career.

I was 13 years old and watched it ( gripped) on TV in the UK. This was easily the best song.....I was happy when Sandie Shaw won, but I so knew that this beautiful song should have been the winner. The determination on Vicky's face...and she came back and won the competition a few years later. At that time (1967) my dear late sister was the assistant in a record shop....she said many customers asked for Vicky's song and I think it must have sold well here. Mmmm....would love to find THAT at a car boot sale !

I'm Australian, but grew up in France for the first 4 years of my life. I remember my parents playing this song, plus 'Apres Toi" and "La Poupee, Le Prince et la Maison" on high rotation, on those 45 records with the big hole in the middle (you had to add a disc to the centre of the turntable so they'd fit.) What a joy to hear it now. This song is part of my DNA, I even remember the words - or the sound of them - even though I no longer speak French. Thank you for bringing back the memories

Ah junior-high memories and Vicky, my first love! My aunt returned from school in Paris after a year and brought the album “Après toi” back with her. In an isolated little town in Minnesota too far from the Canadian border to pick up a good radio signal, it was the only music in French I grew up with as a French Canadian. I learned every word of every song on that album. She’s a class act and a warm memory I’ll take with me to the end. Merci Vicky! T’as touché ma vie d’une façon inexplicable.

Beautiful and very inspiring song. In 1967, i was 8, there was Expo 67 and Vicky singing L'Amour Est Bleu and everything is still very clear in my head.

Let me explain further: Nearly all Eurovision songs are sung in English wheras I would prefer them to be sung in one of the languages of that country. EG the UK entry could be sung in Welsh or Gaelic as well as English. My other point is that French is a beautiful language and lends itself to songs. One may not be able to understand French, but the words sound good anyway.

@@MrSebboxxx By the end of the 1970s many nations were choosing to sing in English. As a result, for a while it was made compulsory to sing in the native language. That rule eventually was abolished and now any country can sing in any language they chose.
