On 15 October 2006, Vicky Leandros was elected town councillor of the Greek harbor town of Piraeus on the Pasok list. Her task concerned the Cultural and International development of Piraeus. She also served as Deputy Mayor of Piraeus. It was announced in June 2008 that Leandros decided to leave her position in Greek politics with immediate effect, stating that she had underestimated the workload and time needed to fulfill her political obligations and that it had become impossible to combine those duties with her singing career.

On a vu souvent
Rejaillir le feu
D'un ancien volcan
Qu'on croyait trop vieux
Il est, paraît-il
Des terres brûlées
Donnant plus de blé
Qu'un meilleur avril
Et quand vient le soir
Pour qu'un ciel flamboie
Le rouge et le noir ne s'épousent-ils pas?
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Je ne vais plus pleurer
Je ne vais plus parler
Je me cacherai là
À te regarder danser et sourire et
À t'écouter chanter et puis rire
Laisse-moi devenir l'ombre de ton ombre
L'ombre de ta main
L'ombre de ton chien
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
The song "Ne Me Quitte Pas" by Vicky Leandros is a French song that translates to "Don't Leave Me". The song starts with the plea of not leaving and that everything can be forgotten. The memories of misunderstandings and wasted time should be forgotten. The singer begs not to be left, begs for a second chance. The chorus, repeating "Ne me quitte pas" emphasizes the desperation of the plea. The singer offers a fantasy to the person to make them stay, offering to collect pearls of rain from countries that do not rain, digging the earth until death to put gold and light over the person's body. She envisions a kingdom where love is king and the person is the queen.
In the second verse, the singer offers to make up words, tell fantastical tales, and stories of lovers who burned for each other twice. The singer mentions the story of a king who died for not being able to meet the person he loved, all in an effort to persuade the person to stay. The third verse discusses the possibility of rekindling a lost love. The line "On a vu souvent rejaillir le feu d'un ancien volcan" translates to "We have often seen the fire of an old volcano rise again". The singer compares this to their love, trying to convince the person to stay by using a metaphor. The singer then describes how they will hide, watching and listening to the person dance, smile, sing, and laugh, becoming the shadow of their shadow, the shadow of their hand, and even the shadow of their dog, begging for them not to leave.
Vicky Leandros’s Ne Me Quitte Pas was released in 1972 and became an international hit.
The song was originally written and performed by Jacques Brel in 1959.
Jacques Brel's version was translated into more than a dozen languages, but Vicky Leandros’s version had the most success outside of France.
The song was featured in the soundtrack of several movies, including Something's Gotta Give and L'Important C'est d'aimer.
The song was covered by several well-known artists such as Nina Simone, Edith Piaf, and Sting.
The song was referenced and parodied in multiple movies, TV shows, and even in the popular animated series, The Simpsons.
The song was included in the soundtrack of the video game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
The song is sometimes mistakenly attributed to Édith Piaf, another famous French singer and icon of French music.
The song is often played in romantic or dramatic scenes in movies and TV shows.
The song's title became a catchphrase in France and is often used in everyday conversation when someone wants to say "don't leave me".
The chords for the song are as follows: G, Em, C, D, Am, B7.
