Cry Wolf
Victoria Shaw Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't want to hear another pack of lies
Don't want no stories saying how bad you feel
No sympathy or apologies so insincere
Just like the boy who made up stories on the time
The day he wasn't fooling no one came to his side
Cry wolf and always came running
Cry wolf expect me to believe you
Well how will I know if you telling the truth
When you cry wolf
On 4 July last summer does that ring a bell
I met a friend of yours she said she knew you well
Well that was the weekend that I went out of the town
Only to find out you been messing around
I can remember when you call me on the phone
Saying baby please hurry back I'm so alone
Cry wolf and I always come running
But time after time you keep telling me lies
Cry wolf expect me to believe you
Well how I will I know if you telling the truth
When you cry wolf
I won't make a move the next time you cry
The only thing you get from me is a good goodbye
The lyrics of the song Cry Wolf by Victoria Shaw revolve around a recurrent theme of deceit, promises broken, and trust betrayed. The persona of the singer confronts their partner, asking them not to make any more excuses and instead be truthful with them. They are tired of hearing tales that are only told to make them feel better, that sound insincere and have no substance. It is likened to "the boy who made up stories," who kept pretending until no one believed him anymore.
The singer then mentions a specific incident that occurred on 4 July last summer, when they met someone who claimed to know their partner well. They were shocked to find out that their partner had been cheating on them while they were out of town. The partner calls, asking them to come back, but the singer is no longer willing to play along. They have heard the stories and the lies many times before, and now it is time for them to leave.
The chorus is a repetition of the phrase "cry wolf," which means to repeatedly raise an alarm about something without justification. The singer is tired of their partner crying wolf and expecting them to come running every time, only to find out it was a lie. They cannot keep believing the stories and need to know the truth. If their partner keeps crying wolf, they will only get a good goodbye from the singer, a decision that denotes a finality of the relationship.

She's a fantastic songwriter. She wrote a couple of songs for Faith Hill that's why you see her a few seconds. She also convinced Jim Brickman to let Lady Antebellum to sing the song "Never Alone".
